Thought For Today: Tell a man there are 300 million stars in the universe and he'll believe you.
Tell him a bench has wet paint on it, and he'll have to touch it to make sure.
A tourist wanders into a back alley antique shop in San Francisco's Chinatown. Picking through the objects on display he discovers a detailed bronze sculpture of a rat. The sculpture is so interesting and unique that he picks it up and asks the shop owner the price. "Twelve dollars for the rat, sir," says the shop owner, "and an extra thousand dollars more for the story behind it."
"You can keep the story, old man," he replies, "but, I'll take the rat."
The transaction complete, the tourist leaves the store with the bronze rat under his arm. As he crosses the street in front of the store, two live rats emerge from a sewer drain and fall into step behind him.
Nervously looking over his shoulder, he begins to walk faster, but every time he passes another sewer drain, more rats come out and follow him. By the time he's walked two blocks, at least a hundred rats are at his heels, and people begin to point and shout. He walks even faster, and soon breaks into a trot as multitudes of rats swarm from sewers, basements, vacant lots, and abandoned cars and start following him.
Rats by the thousands are at his heels, and as he sees the waterfront at the bottom of the hill, he panics and starts to run full tilt. No matter how fast he runs, the rats keep up, squealing hideously -- now not just thousands but millions -- so that by the time he comes racing to the water's edge a trail of rats 12 city blocks long is behind him. Making a mighty leap, he jumps up onto a light post, grasping it with one arm, while he hurls the bronze rat into San Francisco Bay with the other, as far as he can throw it.
Pulling his legs up and clinging to the light post, he watches in amazement as the seething tide of rats surges over the breakwater into the sea, where they drown.
Shaken and mumbling, he makes his way back to the antique shop. "Ah sir, you've come back for the rest of the story," says the owner.
"No," says the tourist, "I was just hoping you had a bronze sculpture of a lawyer!"

A nursery school teacher was delivering a station wagon full of
kids home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the
front
seat of the truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children started
discussing the dog's duties. "They use him to keep crowds back,"
said
one child. "No," said another , "he's just for good luck." A third
child brought the argument to a close. "They use the dogs," she said
firmly, "to find the fire hydrants

I guess I must be on the wrong page…
A vehicle at 15 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 800 gallons a year of gasoline.
A vehicle at 25 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 480 gallons a year.
So, the average clunker transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year.
They claim 700,000 vehicles – so that's 224 million gallons / year.
That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.
5 million barrels of oil is about ¼ of one day's US consumption.
And, 5 million barrels of oil costs about $350 million dollars at $75/bbl.
So, we all contributed to spending $3 billion to save $350 million.
How good a deal was that???
They'll probably do a great job with health care though!!

A farmer went to town to buy a pickup truck that he saw advertised
in the paper for a certain price. After telling the salesman which
truck he wanted, they sat down to do the paperwork. The salesman
handed the farmer the bill, and the farmer declared, "This isn't the
price I saw!" The salesman went on to tell the wise old farmer how
he was getting extras such as power brakes, power windows, special
tires etc. And that was what took the price up. The farmer needed
the truck badly, paid the price and went home.
A few months later, the salesman called up the farmer and said, "My
son is in 4-H and he needs a cow for a project. Do you have any for
sale?" The farmer said, "Yes, I have a few cows, and I would sell
for $500.00 apiece. Come look at them and take your pick." The
salesman said he and his son would be right out. After spending a
few hours in the field checking out all the farmer's cows, the two
decided on one and the salesman proceeded to write out a check for
$500.00.
The farmer said--------"Now, wait a minute, that's not the final
price of the cow. You're getting extras with it and you have to pay
for that too." "What extras?" asked the salesman.
Below is the list the farmer gave the salesman for the final price
of the
cow..........

Two rednecks were looking at a Sears catalog and admiring the models.
One says to the other, 'Have you seen the beautiful girls in this catalog?'
The second one replies, 'Yes, they are very beautiful. And look at the price!'
The first one says, with wide eyes, 'Wow, they aren't very expensive. At
this price, I'm buying one.' The second one smiles and pats him on the back.
'Good idea! Order one and if she's as beautiful as she is in the catalog, I will
get one too.' Three weeks later, the youngest redneck asks his friend, 'Did
you ever receive the girl you ordered from the Sears catalog?' The second
redneck replies, 'No, but it shouldn't be long now. I got her clothes
yesterday!'

Paisley, Urban CMA count increases due to error
Thursday, September 10, 2009 – Subsequent to the CMA Awards nomination announcements on "Good Morning America," CMT's "Insider Special Edition: 2009 CMA Awards Nominations" and Premiere Radio Networks, it was discovered that Brad Paisley and Keith Urban were inadvertently omitted from the list of final nominees for CMA Musical Event of the Year for Start A Band.
The additional nomination gives Paisley a total of seven nominations - the most of any artist nominated for the 2009 CMA Awards. Urban's nomination count jumps from four to five.
The omission occurred when transferring information from the online ballot to the list of final nominees. "We take the integrity of the CMA Awards balloting very seriously," said Tammy Genovese, CMA Chief Executive Officer. "And when an oversight like this occurs we commit ourselves to a thorough review, thoughtful and immediate correction, and complete disclosure and accountability to the artists and our industry.
"I can assure CMA's valued constituents that we have examined every detail of the ballot for other discrepancies and all other categories were correct as announced."
Start A Band will be added to the list of nominees for the final ballot and all previously announced nominees will remain on the list. "All of the nominees for Musical Event of the Year are deserving and in the interest of fairness will remain on the ballot for the final vote by our membership," Genovese said. "We sincerely regret the omission of these two deserving artists from the list of nominees and apologize to Brad and Keith, and their representatives, for any confusion."
Zac Brown, Jamey Johnson, George Strait, and Taylor Swift each received four CMA Awards nominations.
Paisley was also nominated for Entertainer; Male Vocalist; Album for "American Saturday Night," which was produced by Frank Rogers and Chris DuBois; Single and Song for Then (DuBois and Ashley Gorley are also nominated as songwriters); and Music Video for "Start A Band" with Urban, which was directed by Jim Shea.
Urban's other nominations include Entertainer; Male Vocalist; Music Video for Start A Band with Paisley; and Album of the Year for "Defying Gravity." Urban is eligible to win a second trophy in the Album category for producing "Defying Gravit"y with Dann Huff.
The 43rd Annual CMA Awards will be broadcast live from the Sommet Center in Nashville, Wednesday, Nov. 11.

****A Parting Thought ****
When Martians land on Earth, how will they tell which are the people
and which are the pets?
Last Call Y'ALL
A fellow and his wife in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where the
people are all patriots, were blessed with the birth of
twins, two identical girls. These twins were born on the
4th of July, and the father, being patriotic, said to
his wife, "We will name them Liberty and Justice, after
the pledge of allegiance".
His wife said, "Are you nuts?
You can't have girls going through life with names like
Liberty and Justice. We are going to name them regular
girl's names like Mary or Jane".
Well, the argument went
on for about a month, when a compromise was reached.
They would each name one of the girls. The man chose
Liberty and the wife picked Elizabeth. As the girls grew,
they were so identical, they kept pulling tricks on people
who couldn't tell them apart.
Finally, when they were about 18, a young man took interest
in them. He would take one out on a date but he was never
sure which one he was with.
He decided he would marry one of them, or both if he could
get away with it, but he wasn't sure which one he would
marry, if he could only get one.He went to the girls father
and explained his quandary. "I love your daughters and want
to marry one of them, but I can't tell them apart, so I will
leave it up to you". "Give me Liberty or give me Beth"

antique shop in San Francisco's Chinatown. Picking through the objects on
display he discovers a detailed bronze sculpture of a rat. The sculpture is so
interesting and unique that he picks it up and asks the shop owner the price.
"Twelve dollars for the rat, sir," says the shop owner, "and an extra thousand
dollars more for the story behind it."

The transaction complete, the tourist
leaves the store with the bronze rat under his arm. As he crosses the street in
front of the store, two live rats emerge from a sewer drain and fall into step
behind him.

Nervously looking over his shoulder, he begins to walk
faster, but every time he passes another sewer drain, more rats come out and
follow him. By the time he's walked two blocks, at least a hundred rats are at
his heels, and people begin to point and shout. He walks even faster, and soon
breaks into a trot as multitudes of rats swarm from sewers, basements, vacant
lots, and abandoned cars and start following him.

Rats by the thousands
are at his heels, and as he sees the waterfront at the bottom of the hill, he
panics and starts to run full tilt. No matter how fast he runs, the rats keep
up, squealing hideously -- now not just thousands but millions -- so that by the
time he comes racing to the water's edge a trail of rats 12 city blocks long is
behind him. Making a mighty leap, he jumps up onto a light post, grasping it
with one arm, while he hurls the bronze rat into San Francisco Bay with the
other, as far as he can throw it.

Pulling his legs up and clinging to the
light post, he watches in amazement as the seething tide of rats surges over the
breakwater into the sea, where they drown.

Shaken and mumbling, he makes
his way back to the antique shop. "Ah sir, you've come back for the rest of the
story," says the owner.

which
truck he wanted, they sat down to do the paperwork. The
