I am concerned about the allegations that the current Selectboard is conducting
too much business in Executive Session, twisting information, and not reporting
accurately in the Selectboard meeting minutes.
I speak from experience that serving as a Selectboard member is a very
demanding and time consuming job. I served with four of the current board
members ( Mark, Mary, Rick and Paul) from January 2000 to March 2002. ( I
retired from my paying job and choose not to run again). During this time there
was never, repeat NEVER, any time when issues discussed in Executive session,
did not qualify under meeting law as defined by VLCT. The regular open meeting
minutes were drafted by a hired clerk, or when not available, were drafted by a
selectboard member and then reviewed by all. There was never, repeat NEVER, any
attempt to twist the discussions or decisions. I doubt very much that the level
of integrity, accuracy, and responsibility has changed. I continue to have a
high regard for these dedicated people.
