Below is a letter sent yesterday to TES staff. This, I hope, will give you a good sense of how the princiapl search is progressing. We're excitied to have two very fine candidates to presnt as finalists to the community!

Please note that the times for the community to meet the finalists will be on Tuesday, March 16 at 7:00 pm and Wednesday, March 17, at 7:00 pm. (This is updated from the 7:30 pm time listed in my note below.) We'll be mailing postcards to the entire Thetford community to announce the dates/times for these community meetings. Please save the dates!!!

Re: Principal Search Committee
Date: March 4, 2004

As you know, the Principal Search Committee has been meeting to move our goal of hiring a permanent principal closer to reality. I wish to extend my deepest thanks to all TES staff members for your contributions to the work the Committee has been doing. Our meetings together, along with the feedback you've provided the Committee have been instrumental in helping us define the qualities we should be looking for in our next principal. In addition, the questions you provided to us for interviews have been invaluable.

At this point, the Committee has reviewed more than 30 applications and interviewed three semi-finalist candidates. We had planned to interview four candidates based on the strength of the applications, however, one of the semi-finalists withdrew from the search last Thursday for personal reasons related to the health of a family member. After conducting interviews, the Committee was clear that two finalists should be presented to TES staff, the community, and the Board.

The two finalists in our Search are Judy Granger of Montpelier, VT and Alice Worth of Norwich VT.

Judy has previously served as Principal of Northfield Elementary School, though for the past two years she has been consulting on an independent basis while writing an education text. She also served as interim Principal at the Washington Village School in Williamstown, VT in late spring 2003.

Alice, as you know, has been the acting principal of Thetford Elementary School since July 2003, with her most recent previous experience as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction for the Orange East Supervisory Union.

The Committee is very pleased to have found two very capable and experienced educators to present as finalists in this search process and we hope you will make every effort possible to welcome them to Thetford and help them understand just how wonderful a school and community we have. While it is critical to interview both of these candidates thoroughly, it is also important to help them realize that TES is an excellent opportunity for them. So, let's put our best foot forward!

Judy will visit TES on March 16 and Alice will meet with us on March 17. The schedule for the day will be forthcoming, though we hope all TES staff will be able to meet with the candidates at 3:15 pm, then again during a community forum at 7:30 pm if you wish to attend.

Again, my thanks to all of you for your help and input during the search process. I look forward to hearing your feedback once we have interviewed the candidates.
