Did you hear about the Mushroom who tried to come to the reunion? Rufus
told him he wasn't welcome. The Mushroom said "Why not? I'm a fun guy."

1:    WHAT'S NEW?

The USS Horne Website is now 32 months old. We've had more than 66,000
visits to the site since 12/01/00. We now have 686 crew members signed
into the online decklog.

That's 16 new shipmates in just the past week!

80 OFFICERS
1 ADMIRAL
4 HORNE SKIPPERS
606 ENLISTED
131 CHIEFS
79 PLANKOWNERS

120 (17.4%) of the listed shipmates have paid annual dues. Thank you! If
you haven't yet paid your dues... please visit the dues page:

www.usshorne.net/dues.htm

And remember... to find out WHAT'S NEW on the site... always check the
link directly beneath the round USSHorne.net logo on the left side of
the main page.

2:    DEADLINE EXTENSION

ORDERS MUST BE RECEIVED BY SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2003

Thanks to a Reunion Notice posted in the quarterly publication "Shift
Colors", many new shipmates are just now finding out about not only the
reunion, but are visiting the USS Horne website for the very first time.
THAT'S GREAT! Unfortunately some of these issues of "Shift Colors" were
just delivered this week. This left very little time for people to place
their orders by the August 15th deadline.

In order to give everybody enough time to get their orders in and to
have the largest turnout possible, we have made arrangements to extend
the order deadline to September 1st, 2003. This will still allow us time
to order transportation, food, names tags, etc, etc. in time for the
reunion.

This will be the first and ONLY extension of the deadline by which
orders must be received. So please get your order in NOW!

We submitted reunion information to Shift Colors last year, but for some
reason, the notice was not published until the most recent issue.

If you visit the Horne Decklog, you will no doubt notice all the new
shipmates who have checked in just within the last week. Take a look!

http://www.usshorne.net/decklog.htm

All new shipmates have a flashing NEW icon next to their name.

3.    HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

The Reunion Committee has heard from more than one Horne shipmate living
in the San Diego area who said they did not feel it was fair for them to
have to pay $99 per night for a hotel room when they lived in town and
could stay at home. For this reason they were not going to attend!
YIKES!

JUST TO MAKE IT CLEAR.

NOBODY IS REQUIRED TO STAY AT THE TOWN & COUNTRY RESORT. YOU CAN STAY
ANYWHERE YOU WANT AND STILL ATTEND THE BANQUET AND VISIT THE HORNE
HOSPITALITY ROOM AT THE TOWN AND COUNTRY RESORT.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS were organized and the special room rate was
negotiated only for those individuals who needed a place to stay and/or
wanted to be close to Reunion headquarters.

When we inform this individuals of this, they say... "Oh man... I
thought you had to stay at the hotel. Okay... never mind... I'm sending
in my order today."

So if you live in San Diego or can stay with a relative or can find a
cheaper hotel rate or want to pitch a tent at the beach, you are by all
means more than welcome and encouraged to join us. You will even
received the special $1 per day hotel parking price. All you will have
to pay for is/are the Reunion Package(s)... SHIPMATE AND/OR GUEST. See
Reunion Information Page:

http://www.usshorne.net/reunion2003.htm

We already have a great turnout and several new orders are coming in
daily. (More than 20 Plankowners already confirmed too) So don't be left
out.

We apologize if this wasn't clear from the beginning. If you have any
questions about this or any other issue, please do not hesitate to
contact me or Reunion Committee President Rufus Reaves.

4.    DIRECTIONS TO HOTEL

Printer friendly directions to the Town & Country Resort (Horne Reunion
Headquarters) are now posted on the Website. You will find them on the
Horne Reunion Information page

http://www.usshorne.net/reunion2003.htm

or you can go directly to:

http://www.usshorne.net/reunionmap.htm

PRING THIS MAP OUT AND BRING IT WITH YOU TO THE REUNION!

5.   BALLCAPS & GOLF SHIRTS

A special HORNE REUNION golf shirt has been designed and will be
available for purchase at the Horne Hospitality Room during the Reunion.
You can take a look at the design at:

http://www.usshorne.net/reuniongolfshirts.htm

And many of you will remember the Horne Ballcaps that were sold more
than a year ago on the Horne Website. After many requests, ANOTHER
shipment of CLASSIC USS HORNE BALLCAPS are being manufactured and will
be delivered in time for the Reunion. The caps are being made by the
same manufacturer who made the last batch (Eaglecrest Inc) There was not
a single complaint from the more than 150 cap orders filled so I felt
this was the best way to go. If any caps are still available after the
reunion, they will be sold on the Website. Proceeds from the sale of
Reunion Golf Shirts and the Ballcaps will go to cover the expense of the
Website.

Take a look at the designs and styles.

6.    DECKLOG REGISTRATION

I often hear from individuals who say "I tried to register on the
decklog, but my name is still not listed." When I check my email I find
no record of the individual so I ask. "How did you try to register? I
didn't get an email from you." I usually get two answers. "I registered
in the community section" or "I signed up for a newsletter." It's quite
understandable why this might cause some confusion. Just know that the
ONLY way to get listed on the decklog is to send me your information:

NAME, RANK/RATE, DATES SERVED ON HORNE, HOMETOWN AND EMAIL/SNAIL MAIL
ADDRESS

Information you provide when signing up for the newsletter or when
registering to post messages on the Horne Community section does not
come to me. That's why I need you to email me if you want to be listed
on the Decklog.

]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]

That's all for this issue... please check your email address on the
decklog to make sure it is correct. Shipmates can NOT contact you if
it's wrong. Keep checking the www.USSHorne.net Website for updated
Reunion Information.

COMING SOON: HOSPITALITY ROOM SCHEDULE

As always... if you have any questions about the Reunion... feel free to
contact Reunion President Rufus Reaves: horner-@webtv.net

or me: IC-@USSHorne.net

So long for now! And see you NEXT MONTH!
