Oracle Portal capabilities

I'm trying to educate myself so I can talk semi-knowledgeably with my
technical advisers. I am a content manager of a large, straight HTML
site for an academic medical institution. I've been hearing talk about
the possibility of using Oracle Portal to provide some content
management solutions for our Intranet and Internet. For context, this is
a large insitution and we would need to be able to provide content
management capabilities (users post content into approved templates that
have been designed by a graphic designer; content manager--me--alerted
when changes posted, I review content, etc. ... ). Assume there would
ultimately be 25-50 people throughout the institution who would be given
some level of authority to "touch" Web pages, all within a system of
checks and balances.
1) Is Oracle Portal adequate for the job?
2) Would anyone be willing to provide links to public sites built using
Oracle Portal?
