Last night I compiled a new version that shows the version number in the blue line that is on top of the console. This is very useful when you are running several versions of Win32Forth during development or testing. I compiled it about the five times that night as it is so easy to test compile as a part of the INNO setup compiler.
It is a self install version. It goes in the standard root of C:\win32for usually. It may give you a chance to install it some where else, but I have not tried that. I suggest you temporarily rename your versions folder or move it in to a temp folder or back it up to a CD etc.
In case you have not already tried out the version with sub directories, it is all included here. It is worth it to have all the source on one folder and also the addmods and undo mods are included that RBS has championed to good effect with the active developers.
This experimental release from my library is fat. It includes all the baggage. The HTML ANS standard help files and more. Look it over. You could use it as a base to add your changes if you want. All I can offer is that if you feed in some changes they will get published, maybe every week or even more often.
This project is in parallel with some other projects. I think some of the improvements can't wait. Especially the blue line version number which I liken to having a library of books and finally now the books have markings on the spine of the book so you can tell what you are looking at.
Feel free to take the code and bring it into your projects and versions. I tried to make the version number differ from others so I put my initials in there. The actual version number does not mater very much to me, I just need a unique ID for each version out there. I hope to synchronize with the others in this wonderful group all of whom I consider to be my friends.
The self installing file is in the SVFIGOK briefcase. If you are not a member of Yahoo you can impersonate the personality of svfigok
Win32Forth SIG How to up or down load from Yahoo. Good one
Paste the URL below in to your browser
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/svfigok
Click on SIGN IN at upper right of screen
svfigok is the I.D. in lower case (if you need it)
orangepocket733 is the password in lower case.
NOTE! You nay have to impersonate an entity named sffigok and use his pass word orangepocket733.
Click on the blue Win32Forth603 there not here
You should see the file named
Blue line vers.num ea.window
JP
P.S. I put it here in a slightly hard to find place as we are not ready for the big time. Check with others at Wn32F-@yahoo.com to see the official progress of the next releases. However it is a start and it is fun to play with.
Robert Ackerman added a overstrike mode with an on screen indicator for wined. I still need to work on the WHATSNEW.TXT file and other documentation. Try F1 and search for any links that have a 404 after them. I put those there to help you see what needs to be done to fix some links.
Try F2
Try F7
Try the insert key
The escape key does nothing for now.
All are harmless
Down load a free copy of EXAMDIFF from the web to see which of your improvements are include and which are not. If you have good stuff, that is tested and works, send me the whole file. You need to put your name on the top of the file and maybe at the bottom some notes as to what to look for. This is probably better than an email with the changes to make, unless they are trivial. It is easy to make a mistake and leave some thing out.
The next release will be a MINI release that only includes the files that have changed after November 8, 2002 This will help with the down load times next time.
