Married
This guy was married. Three times. I asked him whether
he was married. He told me. He was married three times.
He had three wives.
No. That's not very special. Malaysia is an Islamic
country. Here you find a lot of Muslims. And a Muslim
can marry more than one wive.
Still. This man. Only three wives. I told him. That's
too little. He should have more wives. He should have
had seven wives.
I told the man. He was surprised. He wanted to know
why. I told him that one too. Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday, Thursday, ...
Jean Claude
Do you know Jean Claude. Van Damme. Jean Claude Van
Damme. We almost come from the same country. I like
that guy.
Jean Claude is from Belgium. From the French part. I'm
from Holland. The Dutch part. No sweat. I don't hold it
against him.
The other day. I saw this very beautiful young lady. I
had to talk to her. But then you need an opening. Hard
for a shy guy like me.
But I found enough courage. I stepped to the lady.
"Excuse me", I said with a soft voice. "Do you know
Jean Claude?", I asked her.
She didn't know. So right away we had a conversation. I
told her. "Van Damme. Jean Claude Van Damme. The famous
actor from America".
I made some moves with my arms and with my legs. To
show where I was talking about. And what Jean Claude is
doing in his movies.
Now she knew. "Oh yeah", she said. "You know", I said
to her. I was proud. "He's my brother. He's my younger
brother. I taught him everything".
To make a long story short. The beautiful young lady
didn't like fighting. She walked away. Why must these
things always happen to me?
AutoCAD
I don't know about you. And your country. Are you using
illegal software? I'm talking about AutoCAD. Illegal
AutoCAD. Big problem here in Malaysia.
Most engineering firms and architects cannot afford to
buy AutoCAD. The price of AutoCAD is RM 16,000. That's
more than US$ 4,000.
Now what are they doing? More than 80% of them. They
are buying and using an illegal version of AutoCAD. You
can buy it for RM 5. Less than US$ 2.
In my presentations I tell people about the much
cheaper alternative for AutoCAD. I tell the people
about IntelliCAD.
IntelliCAD
Shall I tell you? What I found. I'm not sure. Autodesk
may come after me. They never told me that they like
me. Now they never will.
I found an alternative for AutoCAD. The name of the
program is IntelliCAD. It comes from America. Autodesk
is next door.
That's what I heard. Programmers of Autodesk. They
started their own business. They wrote IntelliCAD. And
now they are selling it.
IntelliCAD is very much the same AutoCAD. You find a
lot of additions to AutoCAD. IntelliCAD doesn't have
these additions.
But still. The commands are the same. The only
difference is the buttons on the toolbars. But you can
change them if you want.
Here in Malaysia AutoCAD 2005 is sold for RM 16,000.
IntelliCAD is sold for RM 1,380. That's for less than
ten percent.
A firm came to me. They want to buy IntelliCAD. Cannot
afford AutoCAD. They asked me to do an IntelliCAD
course. No problem.
You've got AutoLISP in AutoCAD. Good. You also have
AutoLISP in IntelliCAD. And of course dialog boxes. So
it's very much the same.
More about IntelliCAD. The RM 1,380 version is a 2D
version. It has 3D. But the 3D is not too good. You
also have the full version.
The full version has got 3D. All the 3D commands you
find in AutoCAD you also have in the full version of
IntelliCAD.
The full version of IntelliCAD is sold for RM 1,600.
Even that is much cheaper than AutoCAD. I had a
customer.
The customer has got AutoCAD LT. He wants to do 3D. To
do it on AutoCAD LT he needs to buy an application.
From Australia.
I told him about the full version of IntelliCAD. And
that you can use it for 3D. I think he's going to buy
the full version of IntelliCAD.
That' what he's going to do next. He's going to ask me
to do a 3D course. He wants me to train his people and
show them how to do 3D.
Programming for AutoCAD
That's what I was doing. I was doing programming for
AutoCAD. That was my business. But no more. I stopped
with the programming business.
Companies can come to me. And ask me to write a program
for them. They still can. But that's what I say. Don't
come to me. Do it yourself.
I think companies, and every AutoCAD user, should do
their own programming. Don't hire me. Too expensive.
And you learn nothing.
Do your own programming. Start with it. That's hard. If
you haven't done it before. But it can be done. And
you'll get experienced.
Once you're experienced you'll see all the AutoCAD
jobs. That can be done over programming. You'll be
saving time and money.
Sure. You can come to me for programming. Programming
for AutoCAD. Don't. Come to me if you want to start
with programming.

books. You can take an e-mail course. You can even
engage me for a private course.
After the books or after the course. When you know
about programming for AutoCAD. Start writing your own
program.

Save time and money with AutoCAD
You already know. I'm very much in AutoLISP. I think
that's what all AutoCAD users must do. They should
start with programming in AutoLISP.
In AutoLISP you can write your own programs. You can
write AutoLISP programs. You can write exactly the
programs you need.
You can write AutoLISP programs that help you to create
drawings in AutoCAD. And that's the big advantage.
You'll be saving time and money.
An AutoLISP program can be used for creating a part of
an AutoCAD drawing. The program can even create a
complete AutoCAD drawing.
The AutoLISP program is very fast. Whatever it does. A
part of a drawing or a complete AutoCAD drawing. The
job is done within one minute.
I'm not saying something new. But you know how it is.
Working in AutoCAD by hand and not using a program
takes much more time.
Ask yourself. How much time do you need for creating a
drawing in AutoCAD? A couple of hours? A day? A couple
of days?
Use an AutoLISP program and you will be saving. You
will be saving a lot of time and a lot of money. With
AutoCAD.
You don't know programming in AutoLISP? Or you're not
good at programming in AutoLISP? Whatever. Start with
learning AutoLISP.

3. And Now Something Completely Different

A Real Sad Story
I read about her in the newspaper. It is a real sad
story about this young Thai lady. She has AIDS and she
is going to die. That is for sure.
The lady is lying on a cement floot now. That is all
she can do. She cannot move or take another position.
How much longer?
In the paper was her picture. That picture was taken
only a few years ago. She looked very good, very
healthy. She was a beatufil lady.
The young lady told her story. She made me feel sorry.
She almost made me cry. Her story is a tough story. She
had a lot to endure.
She had a boy friend. That must have been a Thai boy
friend. But that boy friend was no good. Is he a real
Thai? He is a crook.
She had a boy friend and then she slept with a man.
That man had AIDS, but he didn't tell her. She she got
AIDS too.
After s short while she felt sick. She went to see a
doctor. The doctor did an investigation. And he found
out that she had AIDS. He told her.
That was a shock for the young llady. She told her boy
firned. The bastard. He didn';t want to see her no
more. He went away and he left her alone.
The young lady is an orphan. She had no parents, no
sisters, no brothers, and no family. She was all alone
as her boy friend left her.
Sure. The young lady was working as a prostitue. But
that's no big deal in Thailand. More than 70% of all
women there are woprking as a prostitue.
And yes the lady had a boy friend. I know. You think
her boy friend was a pimp. But that is not true. That
is not what he is.
The lady slept with him and she slept with other men.
So what? The boy firned of the young lady just wanted
to share his beautiful wife with other men.
And now you're thiniking that ...

4. AutoLISP tip

Variables
When programming in AutoLISP you've got two types of
variables. You've got the global variables and you've
got the local variables.
Both variables are created by the AutoLISP program. The
global variables keep their value. The local variables
only have a value inside the application.
With global variables a lot of memory can be occupied
by them. That's not what we wanted in the old days. You
know. Computers had a small memory.
Nowadays computers have a big memory. So we cares about
the global variables? I do. I always declare my
variables local. Habit.
Howe can you find your variables in an AutoLISP
application? Easy. Load the application in a text
editor and then search for SETQ.
The SETQ function is used to assign a value to a
variable. So every time the variable is used a variable
is created.
Find all your variables and make them local. That's my
habit. And that's my advice. Also your variables will
not influence other AutoLISP applications.
