Why wait for hours? Get your AutoCAD drawings imme-
diately!
You know how it is. It takes hours before an AutoCAD
drawing is created. And then you must check the
drawing. That takes time too.
You can get your AutoCAD drawings within one minute.
All it takes is a smart AutoLISP routine that works
wiht dialog boxes.
If you prefer to wait, then do nothing. But if you want
your AutoCAD drawings immediately, then send a blank e-
mail to:
mailto:acadco-@sendfree.com
You'll learn how you can get your AutoCAD drawings im-
mediately. And what more is accomplished with getting
your AutoCAD drawings immediately.

2. Notes from the Publisher
-------------------------------------------------------
Big plans.
I made some plans about next year. For the ACAD
Newsletter. We're going to do something good. We're
going to change direction.
Up till now I was writing about AutoCAD and AutoLISP.
Next year that will change. Next year I will only write
about AutoLISP.
You'll get AutoLISP programs from me. Complete with
listing and explanation. The articles will help you to
get a better understanding of AutoLISP.
I think that's what every AutoCAD user should do. Every
AutoCAD user should start with AutoLISP. So he can save
time and money with AutoCAD.
Well. Next year I'm going to help you. To get a better
understanding of AutoLISP. You'll get programs,
listings, and an explanation.
You'll see how programming in AutoLISP is done. I'm
sure you'll be learning a lot. And ... If you want to
know something. Come to me.
Suzi
I'm sitting here in my apartment. In Puchong. In my
office. That's how I call it. It's a bedroom. I put a
desk and my computer there.
I'm worrying. I'm thinking. About Suzi. I saw here
yesterday. At the bank. That wasn't nice. What she
said. About my age.
We were talking about age. I asked her. How old do you
think I am? Right away she gave an answer. Fifty plus,
she said.
OK. I'm fifty plus. But that doesn't give people a
reason to say that I'm fifty plus. They could lie about
it. Say that I look like thirty.
I didn’t do that. Later I thought about it. But I
should have told her this story. I should have said to
her.
"Last week I was talking to this young lady. I looked
at her. In her eyes. I said to her: "What a beautiful
eyes you have!".
The young lady. Looked back at me. She said: "No. We
cannot marry. Because you’re too young. I'm 24 and
you're 18."
"
I should have said that to Suzy. Because now I was
loosing my face. She telling that I'm fifty plus.
Everybody could hear!
IntelliCAD book
I'm very much in AutoCAD and in AutoLISP. Now I'm also
in IntelliCAD. It's such a cheap alternative for
AutoCAD!
I was at the office of the supplier of IntelliCAD. He
gave me a book. About IntelliCAD. My God. Was that book
condense.
All the commands were explained in the book. But there
was hardly an explanation. After reading the book
IntelliCAD wasn't any clearer.
I wrote a book about IntelliCAD. I told everything
about IntelliCAD. I wanted to give a thorough
introduction to IntelliCAD.
I'm using the book for IntelliCAD course that I give. I
give my students a copy of the book. During the course
I go through the book.
Interested? Do you want to have the IntelliCAD book?
Maybe you bought IntelliCAD. And you want to know how
to use the program.
Come to me. Ask for the book. And I'll work something
out. I would be glad to give the book to you. Send me
an e-mail.
Computer class
A good friend of mine. He asked me if I could teach his
son computers. I told him. No problem. Although I
didn't know what to do.
His son came to my place. We were sitting behind the
computer. I asked him what he's doing at school. And
whether they have a computer there.
They have a computer at school. And every now and then
the pupils may use the computer. What they do? They
make drawings.
Now that's a start. I opened Microsoft Paint. And I
asked the son to make some drawings. That's what he
did. But he wanted something else.
I talked to his father. Father told me that he wanted
his son to learn English. I must talk English to him
and do some reading with him.
That's what I tried the next time. I found some stories
on Internet. We were reading them together. But again.
The son was not interested.
"What do you want to do", I asked him. He wanted to
play games on the computer. Games with fighting and so.
That's all he wanted.
I went to see Johnny Crack. You know Johnny Crack. The
whole of Malaysia is coming to his place for illegal
software. Except police.
Police hasn't found yet where Johnny Crack has got his
shop. I'm afraid they don't even know that Johnny Crack
is selling illegal software.
Johnny has a game for me. Five ringgit. That's less
than two dollars. I bought the software. For the son.
The next time.
I had a quick look at the software. I learned how to
install it. But doing something with it. Too
complicated.
The son came again. I showed him the software. I had it
installed. He was very enthusiastic. Right away he
started playing with it.
I still don't know how to play with the game. But son
knows how to do it. He's very active while he is at my
place.
Learning computers. Learning English. No way. He comes
at my place, he sits behind the computer, and he starts
playing with the game.
Keep Up the Good Work
That's a nice expression. I think it's an American
expression. I was dealing with a guy from America. He
used that expression all the time.
I was selling his products. He was my sales manager. A
sort of. He was sending me motivational letters. His
letters always ended with Keep Up the Good Work.
Now I'm using that expression too. I'm surprised. I
started using that expression. That expression is so
appropriate most of the time.
Like I saw this guy. He had words with his wife. That
ended in fighting. He was fighting. His wife was
getting the blows.
I saw him fighting. I saw him beating his wife. I
walked to that guy. I stepped in front of him. "Keep up
the good work", I shouted at him.
He stopped beating his wife. He looked at me. For a
couple of seconds. Then he realized what he was doing.
He turned around and walked away.
Or the other day. This snatch thief. He was caught. By
the public. They waited for the police. The police came
and took him away.
The snatch thief was handcuffed. Two police officers
were holding him. I had to do it. I walked to the
snatch thief. "Keep up the good work".
That was different. From before. Because the snatch
thief didn't walk away. He wasn't smiling either. Why
not? Had I said something wrong?
Learning AutoLISP
You already know. You can save lots of time and money
with AutoLISP. Write programs for AutoLISP and get your
AutoCAD drawings much quicker.
If you don't know AutoLISP. I can help you. To learn
AutoLISP. I can help you in three different ways. These
are the different ways:
1. Books. I've got four books about programming in
AutoLISP. You can read them and study them. To learn
AutoLISP
You can find my books at the following web site. The
books are US $ 19.95 each. If you buy all four of
them at once then it's only US $ 50.
http://autocadbooks.topcities.com
2. E-mail course. You can take an e-mail course. It's a
ten weeks course. The course has got twenty lessons.
Each week two lessons
With the e-mail course comes full support. You're
doing the course. And then you've got a question.
You can always come to me.
The e-mail course is US $ 225.
3. Private course. I can do a private course. At your
premises. One thing. Only if your company is in
Kuala Lumpur.
We talk. And we set a time table for the private
course. If you're in a hurry. We can squeeze the
course into one week.
The private course is US $ 450.
Even if you're not in illigal software. Have a good
read.

3. And Now Something Completely Different
-------------------------------------------------------
Citizenship and Graft
That was the title of the article of Eric B. And he was
talking about a Chinese Indonesian citizen. That looked
good.
In Indonesia they don't like the Chinese. That's what
Eric has seen after all these years in Indonesia. I
live in Malaysia. Exactly the same.
What a pity. The article was about a Chinese-
Indonesian. But was it about something done to him
because he is a Chinese?
That Eric didn’t make clear in his article. After
reading his article I’m afraid what happened to this
Chinese happens to everybody.
OK. The Indonesians don’t like the Chinese. The Chinese
often have much more money than the Chinese. And
businesses.
But do you know why the Indonesians don't like the
Chinese? The Indonesians have many reasons for not
liking the Chinese.
But here is one. The Chinese can blame themselves. The
created an environment in which the Indonesians could
only hate them.
This was as the Dutch were still in Indonesia. The
Dutch didn’t like the Indonesians. They didn’t talk to
them.
This was happening. A Dutchman was walking in the
street and an Indonesian came from behind on his bike.
He would pass the Dutchman.
That was not allowed. He had to stop and get off his
bike. He had to walk behind the Dutchman if he wanted
to continue in the same direction.
The Dutch didn't like the Indonesians. They didn't talk
to them. They didn't want to deal with them. But their
attitude towards the Chinese was different.
The Dutch were talking to the Chinese. They were
dealing with the Chinese. They trusted the Chinese. In
fact they gave them jobs.
Stupid Chinese. The Dutch appointed Chinese as their
tax collectors. And the Chinese took that job. They
acted as tax collectors.
I don't know about Eric. He's from America. I don’t
know how the Americans deal with tax officers and tax
collectors.
But the Indonesians didn’t like the tax collectors.
They always want money for nothing. So the Indonesians
didn't like the Chinese.
That is one of the reasons why the Indonesians don't
like the Chinese. Stupid Chinese. They never should
have taken the job as tax collectors.

4. AutoLISP tip
-------------------------------------------------------
Use of System Variables
AutoCAD has got a lot of system variables. We can use
them all in an AutoLISP program. But only a few of them
are used.
Here's how system variables could be use din an
AutoLISP program. In the example the CMDECHO system and
the OSMODE system variable are used
(defun c:progr ()
(setvar "cmdecho" 0)
(setq om (getvar "osmode"))
(setvar "osmode" 0)
-------------------
-------------------
-------------------
-------------------
(setvar "cmdecho" 1)
(setvar "osmode" om)
(princ)
)
When the CMDECHO system variable is set to zero then no
command echo's are displayed at the command prompt.
That is what we want.
By default the CMDECHO system variable has got a value
of 1. Command echo's are displayed at the command
prompt. That's what we want.
So at the start of the AutoLISP application the CMDECHO
system variable is set to zero. At the end it is set
back to 1.
Over the OSMODE system variable the object snap or the
running object snap can be set. We don't want an object
snap set in an AutoLISP application.
If an object snap is set then lines, arcs, etc. can be
drawn in other directions then intended. So we switch
the object snap off.
That's how it is done in the example. The value of the
OSMODE system variable is stored in the variable OM.
Then it is set to zero.
Later the OSMODE system variable gets back its original
value. That's a nice way of doing it. The system
variable gets back its original value.
