Why wait for hours? Get your AutoCAD drawings imme-
diately!
You know how it is. It takes hours before an AutoCAD
drawing is created. And then you must check the
drawing. That takes time too.
You can get your AutoCAD drawings within one minute.
All it takes is a smart AutoLISP routine that works
wiht dialog boxes.
If you prefer to wait, then do nothing. But if you want
your AutoCAD drawings immediately, then send a blank e-
mail to:
mailto:acadco-@sendfree.com
You'll learn how you can get your AutoCAD drawings im-
mediately. And what more is accomplished with getting
your AutoCAD drawings immediately.

2. Notes from the Publisher

Spam
How could they? Consider the ACAD Newsletter as spam.
That's what happened. I received an e-mail from the
postmaster. No name given.
The postmaster was talking about MDaemon. He considers
the ACAD Newsletter as spam. And he didn't want to
receive the ACAD Newsletter.
I gave a reply to the postmaster. I told him. The ACAD
Newsletter is send to subscribers that want to receive
it.
And if you don't want to receive the ACAD Newsletter no
more. Then just send a blank e-mail to:
mailto:acadnewslette-@topica.com
Blimy. I shouldn't have said that. Now I'm going to
loose a lot of subscribers. Now no more ACAD
Newsletter. Now it is over.
I will loose
You know my four books. About programming. For AutoCAD.
The first book is about the AutoLISP programming
language.
The second book is about dialog box. Dialog boxes have
their own programming language. The third book is about
programming. How it is done.
The last book is about toolbars. You've got AutoLISP
programs. That work with dialog boxes. Most probably.
Use toolbars to run them.
Anyway. I'm selling my books for $ 19.95 each. So if
you buy four books, then you're spending $ 79.80.
Right? Wrong.
That's why I will loose. If you take my four books at
once, then the price is $ 50. So I will loose about $
30. If you take all my books.
Police Work
It was a rainy morning. Police work. We always must
endure a lot of trouble. But me. Idealistic, very
motivated.
That's what you always can do. You can take shelter.
Against the weather. There was this restaurant. A lot
of people. I stepped into the restaurant.
Remember. Police. I was a volunteer. Doing police work.
I didn't want to step into the restaurant. And not do
any police work.
Right after the door I stopped. I was standing there. I
looked around. People saw me coming in. They looked at
me. "Any criminals here?", I asked.
To make a long story short. Later the police came to my
bed. In the hospital. They asked me what had happened.
They told me how happy they were with me.
Changes
This year is going to be a fantastic year. I can feel
it. And I want to share this feeling with you. We have
some changes.
Remember. In the first year I was sending out the ACAD
Newsletter once a month. Then it changed to once a
week. And back to once a month.
This year two ACAD Newsletters are send out each month.
So this year you'll get a lot more AutoCAD information.
Isn't that good?
AutoLISP
You know by now. I'm very much in AutoLISP. And that's
what you're going to find in the ACAD Newsletter.
You'll find a lot of AutoLISP.
I think AutoLISP is avery important feature of AutoCAD.
It can help you to speed uyp AutoCAD. Too much time is
wasted with AutoCAD.
Up to you of course. But the AutLISP articels may give
you some ideas. For programs that can help you to get
your AutoCAD drawings much quicker.
Paper space
Not only AutoLISP. Throughoput the year I will also
publish articles about paper spxce. This time about
paper space in AutoCAD 2000 and higher.
If you're an old subscriber. Then you know. I've been
writing about paper space. But that was paper space as
I could be found in AutoCAD 14.
Uncle
The other day this lady asked me. "What's your name?".
I gave her a reply. I told her how everybody calls me.
"Uncle".
I don't understand. Why does everybody call me Uncle?
If you're old. Yeah. Then they can call you uncle. But
a young guy like me.
Look. I'm 28. I'm not an old guy of 53. So nobody has
got a reason to call me uncle. No reason at all. They
can call me what they want. But not uncle.
Have a good read. Even if you're an old guy of 53.

3. Text in 3D 1
-------------------------------------------------------
That’s so nice about AutoCAD. You can create text in it
and you can give the text a 3D look. You can look at
the text from different angles.
Now let’s create a text in 3D. And next let’s see what
we can do with it. We can make changes to it. We can
make the text nicer.
We start AutoCAD. And then we invoke the STYLE command.
We want to give our text a special style. The Text
Style dialog box has opened.
In the dialog box we can give the text style a new
name. Click on the New button. In the New Text Style
dialog box you can enter a name.
When that’s done we can select a font. But take care.
If you want to do something with 3D you can only use a
SHX font.
We create a new text style. We call it 3D. And we
select the COMPLEX.SHX font. Leave the setting as they
are.
Click the Apply button and the Close button. The Text
Style dialog box closes. And our newly created text
style is the active text style.
We invoke the TEXT command. There is asked for a start
point, a height, and a rotation angle. Use a height of
20 and a rotation angle of 0.
We type our text. Let’s keep it simple. Just type “This
is text”. That’s done. Now we are ready to give our
text a 3D effect.
First we go to a 3D view. Click on View on the Menu
Bar. A pull-down menu is displayed. Move the cursor
over 3D Viewpoint.
A shortcut menu is displayed. We’re not going to talk
about all the options that are now available. Just
click on SW Isometric.
If you want you can zoom in on the text. But the text
has no 3D effect right now. It’s just a flat text. We
must give it a thickness.
Click on the Properties button on the Object Properties
toolbar. We are invited to select an object. We select
the text.
After the selection we press the right mouse button.
The Modify Text dialog box is displayed. We must go to
the Properties area.
In the Properties area is an edit box behind thickness.
There we enter 20 for the thickness. We click the OK
button.
The text has been given a thickness of 20. The text now
has a 3D effect. It has now the effect we want it to
have.
A word about thickness. You can set a thickness by
entering THICKNESS at the command prompt. A new value
can be entered.
If a new value for thickness has been entered then all
newly created object will have that thickness. Except
text and some other objects.

4. Paper Space in AutoCAD 2005 1
-------------------------------------------------------
AutoCAD started with paper space. When was it? Did they
start with paper space in AutoCAD 13? Anyway. They had
it in all later versions of AutoCAD.
I wrote about paper space in AutoCAD 14. Then AutoCAD
came with paper space in AutoCAD 2000. Paper space
completely changed.
Now we have AutoCAD 2005. Again paper space completely
changed. But this time paper space looks much better.
It's easier to use.
You know. In AutoCAD we have model space and we have
paper space. As AutoCAD starts it opens in model space.
There we create our drawing.
We want to print our drawing. We can print from within
model space. But that's new. Do it from within paper
space. More convenient.
To see how paper space works. And what the advantages
of paper space are. Let's create a drawing. In model
space. And then go to paper space.
I don't have the option to add pictures to the
newsletter. Not now. Maybe later. So I must give a
description of the drawing.
The drawing is a very simple drawing. It consists of
two rectangles. The first rectangle is 100 by 100. The
second rectangle is 10 by 10.
Right. I’m working with a metric drawing. I’m sure my
American readers know how to set up a metric drawing.
The lower left corner of the first rectangle is 10, 30.
The lower left corner of the second rectangle is 90,
110.
Let's create a new drawing. We call the drawing
A3BORDER. It's a rectangle with the size of 420 by 297.
Lower left corner is 0, 0.
That's what we now have. We have a drawing of a model.
The first rectangle with the second rectangle is the
model.
And that's what we want. We want to have a detail in
our print. The second rectangle is the detail. We use
paper space for the detail.
We're done in model space. We now switch to paper
space. We click on the Layout1 tab. I presume you
didn't change the names on the tabs.
The Page Setup Manager dialog box opens. Here we can
select a page setup. We don't have a page setup. So we
click the Close button.
The dialog box closes. And there is our drawing in
paper space. There are a couple of things we see. Let
me give you an explanation.
First we see a rectangle drawn with a hidden line.
What's in the area of the hidden line is the print
area. There is what is printed.
