Free CAD Program
There are many CAD programs. Some of them are free. But
what you get is not what you're used to. Or it's hard
to work with.
Now I found a free CAD program that looks very good.
And very promising. It's no AutoCAD. But it comes close
to AutoCAD.
The free CAD program doesn't have all the commands of
AutoCAD. But the commands it has are the same as the
ones in AutoCAD.
Another very nice feature. You can create drawings in
the free CAD program. And save them. In the AutoCAD DWG
format.
Later you can open your drawings in AutoCAD. Or the
other way around. Create a drawing in AutoCAD and open
your drawing in the free CAD program.

I wrote an e-book. The e-book is about paper space in
AutoCAD 2000 and higher. In the e-book is shown how it
is used.
The e-book starts with an example drawing. In model
space. The example drawing is placed into paper space
and there is worked on it.
Dimensions are added to the drawing. As it is in paper
space. You'll see that adding diomensions in paper
space is very easy.

Creating a drawing. It takes hours before the drawing
is finished. Sometimes days.
Now imagine this. You want to have a drawing. You start
up AutoCAD. When it is running you enter a command. And
the drawing is created.
Automatically. Within one minute. Dialog boxes showed
up. You filled them in. And after filling in the dialog
boxes the AuitoCAD drawing is created.
Is that good? Would you like that? Or do you prefer to

Paraguay
Years ago. I was having a holiday in South America. I
had been in Argentina. Now I was in Paraguay.
Wondering. How's life in Paraguay?
I was asking myself whether I could life in Paraguay.
How can you find out? Talk to people who live there.
That's what I did.
Holland doesn't have an embassy in Paraguay. But they
have a consul. I went to see the consul. I talked to
the consult about Paraguay.
The consul told me how he started in Paraguay. How the
Paraguayans are. How he dealt with them. And he gave me
an advice.
Twenty years earlier the consul came to Paraguay. He
was made director of a factory there. He had two
bodyguards. To protect him.
Two years later he knew how things are in Paraguay. He
no longer engaged bodyguards. He was alone. Doing his
job and coming home at night.
The people of Paraguay. All men walk around with
knives. They fight a lot. With knives. Killing many
people.
Another thing. The Paraguayans are very lazy. You make
an appointment with them for meeting them. They show up
hours later. If they show up.
The consul found out. He learned how they are. But he
was smarter than the Paraguayans. He learned how to
deal with them.
He could make an appointment with Paraguayans. And they
would be there in time. He didn't tell me how he did
it.
That's the advice he gave me. He told me to live in
Paraguay for one year. Stay in a hotel. If you like it
after one year, then stay.
I not only talked to the consul. I also talked to other
people. Living in Paraguay. That didn't take long. I
decided not to stay in Paraguay.
Denmark
We have a big problem here in Malaysia. Being an
Islamic country. Pornography. Not allowed. You cannot
get Playboy here.
But then. Anywhere you go. You go to shopping centre, a
festival, or any other place. You'll find there people
selling porn CD's. In the open.
I told people. I know how to stop the spread of
pornography. Give it free. Let everybody buy the
pornography they want.
And then I tell them about what happened in Denmark.
Years ago. In the sixties of the last century. Denmark
was very strict about pornography.
Denmark was even stricter then Malaysia is now. Because
in Denmakr police was doing everyuthing to stop the
sale and possesion of pornography.
Police was loosing. They couldn't stop it. Theynwould
arrest a person for selling pornography. And the next
day he was selling it again.
The Danish cabinet come together. To talk about it.
Thye knew police was loosing the battle. The decided.
Give pornography free.
In the evening the decision was on the news. "Tomorrow
pornography will be free". Now that was big news. The
whole of Denmark was happy.
Pornography became a big business. A lot of money was
made with pornography. You could buy it. You could sell
it. That lasted.
That lasted. For one week. When the week was over
nobody was buying pornography no more. And nobodoy was
selling it no more.
Pornography was a big problem in Denmark. There was no
solution. And the they gave pornography free. Within a
week the problem was solved.
Malaysia is not ready for such a resolution. I'm
afraid. We must wait a couple of more years. I think
500 years.
Make the Most of Twenty Minutes!
A home-business requires attention and time. Time you
can't always find. Here are three tips to increase the
never ending battle:
1. Keep a tote bag, notebook, or paperwork in the car.
Take advantage of wasted time during car pools,
doctor's office, traffic jams, etc.
2. If you've got kids. Find an activity they can do.
For example. Once a week I take my son and his
friend to an indoor roller balding park. In the same
building is a small cafe.
I take my paperwork with me. While the boys are
having a good time, I have several hours of nearly
uninterrupted work time.
3. In the evening sort through your notes. Next make a
to-do list for the following day or days. You're
prepared for the next day or days.
And there's no "Where do I start problem?".
IntelliCAD
I don't know about your country and so. But here in
Malasia we ahve IntelliCAD. You must have it too. It
comes from America.
Let's say it is a cheaper alternative for AutoCAD. A
much cheaper alternative. AutoCAD is sold for RM
16,000. IntelliCAD goes for RM 1,380.
RM. That stands for Malaysian ringgit. One US dollar is
3.8 Malaysian ringgit. Divede the number by four and
you ahve US dollar.
IntelliCAD is almost the saem as AutoCAD. It has the
same commands as AutoCAD. And the drawings are saved in
DWG format.
Even better. Open AutoCAD drawings in IntelliCAD. One
problem. External references. IntelliCAD cannot handle
them.
Problem? Not really. If you've got an AutoCAD drawing
with external references. Bind the external referecnes
before opening the drawing in IntelliCAD.
Many AutoCAD users have a problem with AutoCAD. They
cannot afford the program. I tell them about
IntelliCAD. They go for the program.
Animation
Here's some more animation. That's so nice about
animation. You can do it in AutoCAD. Or IntelliCAD.
Maybe you ahve switched already.
AutoCAD? IntelliCAD? I don't care. Have a good read.

Let's go back to the main program. In line 15 the
VPOINT command is invoked. Using that command we get a
3D view.

You can also click on View on the menu bar of AutoCAD.
A pull-down menu shows up. In it click on 3D
Viewpoints.
Now a shortcut menu shows up. In the shortcut menu
click on SW Isometric. That has got the same effect as
the command in the main program.
Before we go any further we want to see the whole
drawing. We want to see what has been created. The ZOOM
Extents command is invoked.
After invoking the ZOOM EXTENTS command we will zoom
out a little bit. Now a zoom factor of 0.9x is given in
the ZOOM command.
See line 16 and 17 and see how the ZOOM commands are
invoked. See how we do a ZOOM EXTENTS first and then
use a zoom factor or 0.9x.
Nice. It's time for the animation. We go to the
function for doing the animation. The name of the
function is ANMTN.
That function works with two arguments. The two
arguments are E! and E-@. In the variables are the
names of the first and the second cylinder.
We will not waste any time. Here's the function for
doing the animation. Have a good look at the function
and see how it works.

In the function for the animation are two REPEAT loops.
The loops are used to move the first and the second
cylinder over the shaft.
The name of the first cylinder is stored in the
variable E1. The name of the second cylinder is stored
in the variable E2.
In every step of the REPEAT loop both cylinders are
moved over a distance of 5. The fist cylinder is moved
up. The second one moved down.
That's done in the first REPEAT loop. In the second
REPEAT loop both cylinders are moved in the opposite
direction.
That's what you can see as you copy the complete
AutoLISP routine to a text file and you save it on the
hard disk of your computer.
After loading the AutoLISP routine in AutoCAD and
running it you will see how the cylinders move over the
shaft.
At the start the cylinders are at the end of the shaft.
First they move inwards over the shaft and then they
move outwards over the shaft.
That's what you will see. When the cylinders move
outwards, they will move out of the screen. You do not
see them no more.
But there is something else in the REPEAT loops. You
will see there a cvall to the PAUSE function. That
function is used to make a pause.
We don't want the cylinders to move too quickly. So we
make a pause in every step of the REPEAT loop. This the
PAUSE function.

The PAUSE function works with two variables. It works
with the C1 variable and the C2 variable. At the start
these variables have a value of zero.
We go into two WHILE loops. In the WHILEW loops the
value of the C! and the C@ variables are increased by
one all the time.
Once a value of 30000 is reached for the C1 and the C2
variables, there is jumped out of the WHILE loops.
That's done two times.
This is a big number now. There will be counted till
30,000 times 30,000. How much is that? That's 900
million. There are days ....
In the last article in this series I'll give you the
complete AutoLISP routine of the animation. I'll tell
you what you can do with it.
