Re: D3A8CD - BFM - Begin Form Map  Katie Huxford

The modca ref chart in chapter 4 says a formdef contains a BFM/EFM
construct and can optionally contain a DEG and must contain at least one
medium map and can contain more than one medmap.

Are you saying the file contains
BFM
   .....
EFM
BFM   <--- and this is where the duplicate structured fields are?
...
EFM

or are you saying you have
BFM
BFM
....        <- ---this scenario is clearly bad modca
EFM
EFM

If your file contains multiple formdefs in an inline resource group
bounded by BRG/ERG structured fields and both formdefs have the same names
on the BRS structured fields and BFM structured fields, that's bad form
but not invalid modca--in this case you are at the mercy of the receiver
processing the modca as to whether they are going to use the 1st instance
or the last instance when there are duplicates in an inline resource
group. I do not believe there is any architectural note as to what a modca
processor is supposed to do when duplicates are found in an inline
resource group and I know there are modca processors out there that handle
this situation differently.

if you've got a standalone formdef file that actually contains 2 correctly
formed BFM...EFM structures with correct content therein, I'm not sure
what PSF will do with that. I would not be surprised at all if it errors
off when it hits the 2nd BFM.

In my opinion you're playing with fire if you've got duplicate formdefs
either in a standalone formdef file or an inline resource group.

_[afp-l] D3A8CD - BFM - Begin Form Map

Hi

We a have an AFP file being created which outputs the BFM - EFM and
corresponding fields twice, each with their own Medium Maps. Mixed Object
Document Content Architecture Reference manual does not explicitly says
that you should not output this twice. As all the medium maps be can be
referenced under the one BFM I cannot see why you would want two BFMs .
Can anyone confirm:

1. that you can output BFM twice
2. if so, what issues will be caused by having two BFM in the AFP

Thanks in advanced

Neil
