and also...a letter from We Players seeking donations for our
playmaking:
Greetings,
You are receiving this letter because you have a special connection to
We Players. You are friends or family, have been a patron or a
participant, have stumbled across our public performances, come across
our website and said hello. Somehow, you have become part of our
circle, and therefore you are already a collaborator.
This spring, We has embarked on its most ambitious project to date at
one of the most breathtaking and unique sites for community-based art
in Northern California: The Albany Bulb. The Bulb is a former landfill
which has been transformed by local artists into a sculpture garden,
an art gallery, an off-leash dog park, and a now site for performance.
Currently at the center of a political battle between commercial
developers and the community which has inhabited and transformed it,
this magical island on the bay is the perfect setting for We Players'
presentation of William Shakespeare's TheTempest.
Continuing in our tradition of creating interactive, site-specific
performance events, which transform public space and provide
opportunity for community gathering and celebration, TheTempest will
bring together actors, musicians, sculptors, dancers and community
leaders to help marry Shakespeare's final play to the unique time and
space of this incredible location. The performances, which are free
and open to the public, will occur during the last two weekends of May
2006, and will end with a banquet for audience and participants.
In order to do this work, we need your help. We rely on contributions
from those people who value what We do to help us continue to do it.
We need to create costumes and props, provide lodging for our guest
collaborators, and wage a professional level public relations campaign
with the city of Albany to gain their support for both our project and
the continued value of the Bulb as it is now.
Contributions of any amount are helpful and greatly appreciated. On or
website (www.weplayers.org) you will find a link "support we" which
will allow you to make contributions using paypal and credit cards. We
also appreciate donations in cash or by check - made out to We Players
and mailed to:
