ANTIQUE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS MUSEUM
http://www.oldchristmaslights.com

This site presents an overwhelming amount of information about and
examples of the luminous history of early twentieth century American
Christmas lighting. This is truly a virtual museum of Yuletide lighting
history from the days before electricity. Did you know that electrically
lit trees did not become "universal" in the United States until after
World War II? Reserve some time to explore this site!

ART GONE BAD
http://www.hugemagazine.com/thrift/maercks/index.html

Some say the "art" in a thrift store often resides in the back of the
store, on lower shelves or along the outer walls. Well, the owner of
this site has found and gathered together some of the most interesting,
unusual, weird and mundane thrift store art finds and presents them in
an online gallery.

SMITHSONIAN HOME PRODUCTS
http://www.smithsonianstore.com/home.jsp

Martha Stewart is getting some new competition from an old source:
furniture and home decor products inspired by the collections of the
Smithsonian Institution. The Smithsonian Collection for the Home
includes dining and bedroom sets, chandeliers, sinks and even fireplace
accessories modeled after pieces and designs held by the world's largest
museum and research complex. The Smithsonian collection is being offered
through licensing agreements with Bernhardt Furniture Co., Kichler
Lighting and other manufacturers that will distribute products to
retailers such as Dillard's Inc., the department store chain.

WELLES OSCAR NOT TO BE SOLD

Orson Welles' 1941 Oscar for "Citizen Kane" was to go on the auction
block at Sotheby's in New York on Dec. 11. The Academy Award for Best
Screenplay was estimated to sell for between $800,000 and $1.2 million.
It is the only Oscar Welles ever won. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts
and Sciences objected and blocked the sale.

CLEANING RECIPES FROM THE PANTRY
http://organizedhome.com/content-8.html

Do you find the space under your sink cluttered with an assortment of
specialty "non-green" cleaners? Collectors often have a multitude of
concoctions for cleaning their their wood, glass, pottery and other
collections. Although geared towards general household cleaning, this
website offers tips that could be used on collectibles. You can get rid
of tough stains with home remedies made with every day foods your
grandmother probably used.

FINAL FIVE STATE QUARTERS
http://www.usmint.gov

The final five designs in the popular State Quarters series were
announced this week by the United States Mint. The new coins will be
minted and issued in 10-week intervals throughout 2008 with designs
honoring Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska and Hawaii. These coins
wrap up the series that began in 1999 with a quarter honoring Delaware.
Surveys by the Mint have found that nearly half of all Americans collect
the state quarters, either in casual accumulations or as a serious
numismatic pursuit.

THE OSBOURNE COLLECTION
http://www.juliensauctions.com

POINSETTIA: AN AMERICAN TRADITION
http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/poinsettia

Did you know that the poinsettia has a special day all its own? By an
Act of Congress, December 12 was set aside as National Poinsettia Day.
The date marks the death of Dr. Joel Roberts Poinsett, who is credited
with introducing the native Mexican plant to the United States. The
purpose of the day is to enjoy the beauty of this popular holiday plant.
There are several romantic stories of how the poinsettia became a
Christmas flower; however, it is really an example of sound business
sense and American ingenuity. Poinsettias represent over 85 percent of
the potted plant sales during the holiday season.

Poinsettias are poisonous...truth or fiction? Find out here:
