HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US! With this issue we celebrate the beginning of our
14th year of publication!

In these days of fast-paced social networking, the idea of Message
Boards (sometimes called Bulletin Boards) seems definitely
old-fashioned. Our free Board certainly feels the pain and resembles a
virtual ghost town. We're still there, however, and, if you long for a
slower-paced environment to make friends and discuss your collecting
hobby, please stop by and visit one of our twelve categories and start
some new topics or ask/answer some questions. (We even have a category
for vintage recipes!)

With June underway, it won't be long until the 4th of July. If you need
a flag, a t-shirt or maybe a hat to celebrate, check out some of these
items from Amazon.com:

address? Let us know so you don't miss a single issue of our free
newsletter. It's easy. Update your subscription e-mail address now by

OWN A PIECE OF YANKEE STADIUM
http://tinyurl.com/yankeestadiumauction

Yankee Stadium is quiet now, but memories from the famed venue and the
superstars who took the field can be yours. Steiner Sports, the
exclusive distributor of old Yankee Stadium, has launched the Yankee
Stadium Legends Online Auction and is selling artifacts from the home of
26 World Series championships. City-owned and Yankees-owned memorabilia
from the stadium include bleacher seats, grass and sod packages, park
bricks, signed baseballs, prized photos, players' lockers and more. Big
ticket items include pieces of the ornate frieze that was displayed over
the bleacher wall, ticket booths, turnstiles and various items from the
clubhouses. The city of New York is receiving $11.5 million for granting
the rights to sell off the pieces. Other proceeds from the sale will
reportedly go to the Yankees Foundation.

AMERICA BY AIR
http://www.nasm.si.edu/exhibitions/gal102/americabyair

Did you know that the first airline began flying only 11 years after the
Wright brothers’ flight in 1903 and that the first stewardesses were
nurses meant to help relieve the public’s fear of flying?

In its infancy, air travel was a luxury that few could afford. It was
also uncomfortable and dangerous. At the America by Air website, you can
explore a wide-ranging array of artifacts, photographs, artwork and
interactive displays and including, of course, the history of aviation.
The exhibition is divided into four thematic sections: Early Years of
Air Transportation, 1914-1927; Airline Expansion and Innovation,
1927-1941; the Heyday of Propeller Airliners, 1941-1958; and the Jet
Age, 1958-present.

THE GARBAGE MUSEUM
http://tinyurl.com/csxc74

"Trash-o-saurus" is a 2000 pound sculpture on display at The Garbage
Museum in Stratford, Connecticut. The 24-foot-long piece was fashioned
out of old "no parking" signs, cell phones, shoes, license plates,
sunglasses, plastic toys and other objects. Admittedly, the sculpture
was designed with the goal of teaching how important recycling is and
represents the average amount of garbage and recyclables each person in
Connecticut discards each year. There are also art exhibits made from
reusable stuff, including a life-sized mannequin made from crushed and
colored milk containers strung together with pipe cleaners. The museum
opened in 1993 at the Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority's
recycling center before 'green' was cool, and over 30,000 people visited
the museum last year.

HEPBURN SMOKING STAMP SOLD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qam1qii8g0g

A rare stamp portraying movie star Audrey Hepburn smoking sold for
$93,800 at an auction in Berlin, Germany last week. In 2001 the Deutsche
Post printed 14 million Audrey Hepburn stamps as part of a series
featuring movie stars including Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe and
Greta Garbo. The print run was destroyed after Hepburn's son, Sean
Ferrer, objected to the cigarette holder dangling from the actress'
mouth and refused to grant copyright. However, the Finance Ministry had
already delivered advance copies of the Hepburn stamps to Deutsche Post
for approval. Thirty of those proof copies escaped destruction when an
unknown employee pocketed them and used them to send letters postmarked
from Berlin. Both buyer and seller of the stamp remain anonymous. Audrey
Hepburn, who starred in numerous films including Breakfast At Tiffany's
and My Fair Lady, died of colon cancer in 1993.

VEGAS SIGN GETS HISTORIC DESIGNATION
http://tinyurl.com/vegassign

The iconic "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign is now officially a
piece of national history as it gained listing on the National Register
of Historic Places last month. The 50-year-old neon sign at the south
end of the Las Vegas Strip is an important symbol, as well as the
backdrop for untold thousands of tourist photographs. The sign cost
$4,000 in 1959 and was erected after a group of Strip hotel owners asked
Clark County for a sign welcoming visitors to Las Vegas.

THE MARINER'S MUSEUM
http://tinyurl.com/marinermuseum

This is the online site for The Mariner's Museum, located in Newport
News, Virginia, an actual museum, where you can look at maritime
artifacts from all over the world. There are pictures of Titanic
remnants, nautical prints, navigational aids, and maps, everything that
was used on a ship. There is an extensive library, as well as exhibits
on lighthouses, pirates, and a maritime album with hundreds of pictures
and their related stories.

If the name Sophia Petrillo sounds familar you'll probably also remember
Dorothy Zbornak, Rose Nylund and Blanche Devereaux. These were the
characters of the popular TV show "Golden Girls." Part of the estate of
Estelle Getty, who played Petrillo and who died last year, will be
auctioned by Bonham & Butterfields Los Angeles on June 14. Her Emmy, her
Golden Globe as well as "Golden Girls" props like her trademark straw
handbag and eyeglasses are for sale. To see the items up for auction,
