MAILBOX PICTURE COLLECTION
http://sblom.com/mailbox
Here you can enjoy a repository of the most bizarre mailboxes on the
planet. This site has done us the service of posting the wildest and
wackiest mailboxes, adorning streets from North Carolina to New Zealand.
From the cows, kangaroos and fish to the hammer, it's the most fun we've
had at the mailbox since the invention of the plain brown wrapper.

CIVIL WAR MAPS
http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/collections/civil_war_maps
Dedicated to one of the most famous time periods of our nation's
history, the Civil War, this site tackles the topic of Civil War
mapping. The Library of Congress has created an impressive collection of
about 2240 maps and charts. The database can be browsed by place,
subject, creator or title.

A PUZZLING DISCOVERY
Recently, a collection of at least two dozen wooden jigsaw puzzles from
the 1930s was discovered in the former home of oil baron Frank Phillips
in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The home is now open for tours, and the staff
found the valuable and extraordinary collection in storage some time
ago. It took some time to put the puzzles together, but they are finally
complete. Apparently Phillips' wife and grandchildren were the family
members who had the greatest interest in the hand-cut puzzles. Now
assembled, the puzzles are occasionally on display at the Phillips
mansion.

Vintage jigsaw puzzles are a popular collecting interest. Collector Bob
Armstrong maintains a website at which a good bit of information can be
found, including a history of the hobby, information on cutting
techniques and restoration of old puzzles.

25 CENTS FOR 15 MINUTES
http://www.retrothing.com/2007/06/magic_fingers_v.html
Remember vibrating beds in motel rooms? The inventor of the "Magic
Fingers Vibrating Bed," which brought weary travelers 15 minutes of
"tingling relaxation and ease" for a quarter in motel rooms across
America during its heyday as a pop culture icon in the 1960s and '70s,
has died. John Joseph Houghtaling was 92. Tinkering in the basement of
his New Jersey home, Houghtaling invented the "Magic Fingers" machine in
1958.

LARGER THAN LIFE
http://www.ohiobarns.com/othersites/largerthanlife/ltl.html
This collection of roadside attractions, miniature golf giants, and
monumental monuments is a one giant tribute to America's obsession with
size. Some of these colossal creations have a quaint, primitive charm
while others are just plain scary. The purpose of this site is sharing
information on where these structures exist and to provide a
photographic catalog of them.

BRIMFIELD JULY 14-19
http://www.brimfield.com
Brimfield shows, considered the largest outdoor antique shows in the
country, draw antique dealers, buyers and curiosity seekers from all
corners of the world three times a year -- in May, July and September.
There are approximately 5000 dealers in 20 different fields and the
shows geographically cover one mile on each side of Route 20, located
between Exits 8 & 9 of the Massachusetts Turnpike. Remaining show dates
in 2009 are July 14-19 and Sept 8-13.
