MIRACLE IN POLSON
http://www.miracleofamericamuseum.org
Located in Polson, Montana, Gil and Joanne Mangles founded their Miracle
of America Museum in 1981. Their vision was a museum with displays of
American history from the walking plow to now. To date, their non-profit
museum has grown to more than 112,000 items. From their website we found
pictures of unusual artifacts such as a sterling silver 1940's show
saddle, a 19th century horse drawn hearse, an 1873 harp, a 1917 Harley-
Davidson flat track racer, a 1898 sheep powered treadmill and a
beautiful drug store soda fountain.

AMERICAN MOTORCYCLE STAMP
http://tinyurl.com/pcnop
Motorcycle and stamp enthusiasts are gearing up for the August 7
dedication and release of the American Motorcycle postage stamps at the
66th annual Sturgis, SD, Motorcycle Rally. A 10-foot image of the new
stamps will be unveiled and Sturgis will be the only city in the nation
in which they are available on this date. The four stamps feature
digital illustrations of a 1918 Cleveland, a 1940 Indian Four, a 1965
Harley-Davidson Electra-Glide and a circa 1970 chopper. The stamps go on
sale nationwide August 8 -- each guaranteed to make it across the
country for just 39 cents.

EXPENSIVE, COLLECTIBLE CARS
http://tinyurl.com/gkzmy
Sports Car Market magazine has assembled a list of the 15 priciest auto
auctions, from the 2002 sale of a 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special
Roadster to the record-setting transaction involving a 1931 Bugatti
Royale. See the list and photos of each at the above website.

EBAY FOR THE MACABRE?
http://auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y06/m07/i31/s03
Victims' rights advocates are outraged with two Web sites specializing
in the online sale and auction of "murderabilia." MurderAuction.com is a
kind of eBay of the macabre. The site auctions the autographs, letters,
photos and artwork of serial killers and other notorious criminals. Read
Joshua Platt's comprehensive article on this issue at the above
AuctionBytes link.

THE PORTRAIT COMPETITION
http://www.portraitcompetition.si.edu/index.html
Portraits account for some of the world's most legendary artwork (i.e.,
Mona Lisa). The National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.
inaugurated the first-ever American portrait challenge this year, and
asked artists and sculptors throughout the U.S. to enter. View the
results on this site, which comes complete with statements from
exhibition finalists, online journals from 13 of the artists, and an
interactive drawing and coloring tool for the painter within. Don't miss
the first-prize winner, "Sam and the Perfect World" by David Lenz. It's
a portrait of the artist's son Sam, who has Down Syndrome. In his
accompanying statement, Lenz muses over this image of his young boy, and
what it means to be "perfect" in society today.

FYI: REDUCE CLUTTER, HELP A CHARITY
http://www.recyclingforcharities.com
At Recycling for Charities, you can donate old wireless items, such as
cell phones and handhelds. They also take digital cameras, iPods and ink
or toner cartridges. Donating prevents them from being tossed into
landfills, only to leach toxic materials in to the earth. Proceeds will
be donated to the charity of your choice. At present there are over 60
organizations signed up.
