Scorpion question

A friend of mine is involved in the real estate business in Phoenix, AZ.
He said that some homes in the Phoenix area are nearly impossible to sell because they are in "scorpion territory", meaning that scorpions are seen regularly in the home. He was curious on how to make homes in these areas more scorpion free. I was curious about why scorpions congregate in some areas more than others, I lived in AZ for 12 years (including 8 years in Phoenix) and saw only one that entered my home during that time.
