Call for Visual Artist
Deadline Wednesday December 14, 2005
Mayworks Festival contracts a visual artist every year to create a
'signature' image that is reproduced on all the publicity materials
-- poster, pamphlet, program guide, website -- for the Festival.
This image is highly visible, and reflects programming for the
upcoming Festival. The successful candidate will collaborate with
the Festival Coordinator and committee members to develop the image
concept.
Mayworks Festival of Working People and the Arts is a
multi-disciplinary labour arts festival that celebrates working
class culture. Founded in 1986 by the Labour Arts Media Committee of
the Toronto and York Region Labour Council, Mayworks is Canada's
largest and oldest labour arts festival. The Festival was built on
the premise that all workers share a common struggle for decent
wages, healthy working conditions and a living culture. Mayworks'
goal is to promote the interests of cultural workers and trade
unionists, and to bring working-class culture from the margins of
cultural activity onto centre stage.
All visual artists are invited to submit a curriculum vitae, and
images of past work with a list that includes title, medium,
dimensions and date, up to a maximum of 15, in any of these formats:
CD-ROM, print, slide, or via web link by Wednesday, December 14,
2005. To ensure the safe return of your material, please include a
self-addressed, stamped envelope. Mayworks is not responsible for
unclaimed support material. Please do not submit original work.
Submit to:

Ontario (CARFAC Ontario) is the non-profit association of
professional visual artists in Ontario. It is one of eight national
and provincial affiliates. Founded in 1968, CARFAC has worked for
over three decades on the legal and economic issues facing artists.
We believe that artists, like professionals in other fields, should
be paid for their creative work and share equitably in any profits
issuing from that work.
