Subject: Asp4Hs/Php4Hs Site Updates - 3/28/2001

Thanks for signing up for the ASP4HS/PHP4HS announcements mailing list.
Sorry it's been so long since I've sent out an update.
Here are some of the new or updated things at ASP4Hs since the
last email went out. Check the What's New on the site anytime
too. New things come in all the time.

(9/30/00 - 3/28/2001)

-----------------------------------
Add-on's Added
-----------------------------------

- Bill Evjen submitted a great new ASP-SQL (dbconnection) custom
dialog for generating ASP/vbscript code for database access.
This can generate code for the connection, SQL query, and
recordset open. Simpler than AspDatabase but well designed for
quick & frequent use.

- Bill Evjen sent in a new CDONTS Emailer Wizard custom dialog to
generate ASP code for CDONTS emailer object.

- Carl McDade wrote a great little script called All-In-One that
combines and extends the functionality of rsVarSetup and
FormVarSetup. Basically it creates a series of "varFoobar =
someobject("varFoobar")" statements setting object fields to
variables from a list of variables. One can set any variable
or variable type using the selected text as objects or set
custom variable and objects. For instance you could set
request.form() or session() ... etc to the selected text, use
the default Rs() or make up a custom list and set it to
application(). Spaces and special characters are trimmed out
of object names a-z, 0-9 , _ and . are allowed.

- Received an updated FunctionHelp script from Per Søderlind. It
displays the help file/description for functions defined in the
ExpressionElements.vtm file when you click on a function and
then hit the shortcut key. The update fixes a bug reported by
Ed Ost. Per has also improved his functionhelp to support
partial string matches.

- Added the ADO Form Builder script by Aaron Trubic. This script
will take a plain text file with a list of variables and turn
it into a html based form with field names in place. Also
generates a snippet to place in an ASP page to populate your
database with the exact contents of the form! (Add Record) All
with one click and the script is fully customizable.

- Added the ASP Simple Form Builder script by Aaron Trubic. Takes
lines of plain text and constructs a simple text box form that
you can modify later. A good script to customize.!

- Added the rsVarSetup script by Kathi O'Shea. Mostly superceded
by All-in-One.

- DevGuru has added a quick ref for HTML. See Add-In Help: DevGuru

- Emmanuel Meurant had some extensions for Dreamweaver that
support ASP development. He has recently added some for ASP.NET
code. See Misc Add-on's for the link

-----------------------------------
Miscellaneous
-----------------------------------

- B. Collier Jones has started a series of tutorials to document
and teach the process of Creating Syntax Highlighting Parsers
for HomeSite 4.5. This'll really fill a knowledge hole.

- Note that Allaire is asking for suggestions for ASP.NET support
enhancements for HomeSite v5. Post to this thread:
   http://forums.allaire.com/hsconf/Thread.cfm?&Thread_ID=207576

- Added a note about using the ASP-Generic parser for
ASP/Perlscript.

- Wrote 2 new FAQ-answers,
FAQ: Writing or Converting Help Sets for HomeSite Use
FAQ: Backing Up Color Coding Schemes.

- I wrote install instructions for Installation of VTML Custom
Dialogs.

-----------------------------------
Links Added
-----------------------------------

... to an interesting new site, FusionDispatch.

... to Microsoft's new ASP.Net site, all about the new,
coming ASP.Net (the technology formerly known as ASP+).

... to various new articles on Allaire's site, with topics such
as virtual folders in HS projects, customizing HomeSite for
editing XHTML, and writing structured code.

-----------------------------------
PHP4HS
-----------------------------------

I've also started a section of HomeSite add-on's that are useful
to PHP developers. I don't have any experience with PHP yet so
I'm have to rely on user submissions to build the list, but it
should still be useful. Check it out. Here are the additions
there since the last email.

- Added a new HS-compatible help set of the current PHP(4) manual
set converted by Carl Mc Dade. Be sure to thank him if you use
this. It's 1650+ files that he converted.

- Added a great write-up by David Alders on Setting up server
mappings with HomeSite/Apache/PHP.

- Added a new HS-compatible help set of the current MySQL manual
set converted by David Fischer.

- Added a few good PHP resource links from webmonkey including a
very comprehensive PHP4 Overview/Tutorial and a PHP/MySQL
tutorial.

Thanks again for signing up. I hope the site and the add-ons are
useful to you. Please remember: The fundamental idea of Asp4Hs
is to Exchange help and HS add-on's. So please think about
whether you have anything, even requests or ideas, that might
help others... and send 'em in...

P.S. If Patrick Chau is receiving this, or anyone who knows him,
please email me asap. I'd like to discuss the custom dialogs you
submitted to me but your hotmail email is bouncing and I don't
have another address for you.
