Asp4Hs/Php4Hs Site Updates - 2/26/2002

Thanks for signing up for the ASP4HS/PHP4HS announcements mailing
list. Sorry it's been so long since I've sent out an update.

Instead of trying to completely catch up on everything since my
last email, I'll highlight some recent or important additions and
let you check the What's New page or add-in lists for further
info.

(3/28/2001 - 2/26/2002)

-----------------------------------
General HomeSite News
-----------------------------------

- As you probably know by now, HomeSite version 5 was released in
October 2001. Opinions vary, but it seems to be very stable and
quicker, with some useful new features, including even better
customization support and far better XHTML support.

- Allaire.com site merged into Macromedia.com website. The two
sites have merged, though allaire.com urls are still supported by
forwarding.

- Macromedia has now posted additional spell-checker dictionaries
for HS/CFS v5. Find the link and more info for spell checking in
various HomeSite version at my FAQ: How do I find additional
Spell-Checker Dictionaries for HomeSite/CFS/JRS.

- Macromedia is working on improving their support. They do
offer more support than allaire did for certain things. For
instance, you are not limited to only the support forums for free
HomeSite support. See links to their HomeSite Support Center and
new Designer & Developer Center. (and nag them to keep them up
to date!)

-----------------------------------
ASP Add-on's Added
-----------------------------------

- I have been given permission to host the documents and sample
scripts for TSyntaxMemo, the editing component used in
HomeSite/CFS/JRS. The docs and scripts can help you if you are
writing new syntax coloring parsers. See also my FAQ on writing
parsers for more info.

- Added a ASP/Vbscript Expression Builder file from Jeremy
Swinborne. This is less complete than Brent Bain's, but since
Brent's site is down, it's useful.

- Added a great set of custom ASP code generator dialogs from
Patrick Chau. See ASP custom Dialogs.

- Added Jon Cole's excellent Comment Block Tool script for
inserting formatted comment header blocks into your code.

- a number of scripts have been added or updated.

- found and linked a number of new articles on everything from
small HomeSite feature tutorials to some excellent articles on
XHTML in HomeSite v5 and scripting HomeSite. (see the "articles"
page, not links)

- Added listings for several non-ASP, but useful custom dialogs;
CSS Select JScript Wizard, Window Open Wizard Open Window Jscript
Wizard, and BrowserRedirect.

- Added a listing for Bryan LaPlante's Custom Tag Wizard and
Danny Goodisman's VTML Wizard. Both can generate custom dialog
files (vtm's).

-----------------------------------
Miscellaneous
-----------------------------------

FAQs / Tips added:
FAQ: How do I find additional Spell-Checker Dictionaries for
    HomeSite/CFS/JRS
Tip: Speed Editing by using the Code Template feature
Tip: Change the date format on the RMB menu | Insert Date/Time
Tip: Quick Scripts for HS functions.
FAQ: Making Added Help Sets Searchable.

FAQ: Adding HomeSite/Studio as an HTML editor in MSIE.
Now updated for HSv5 and MSIEv6!

- Added a new tool by Trevor Brierly, XSLTemplate Explorer

- Added Asp4Hs/Php4Hs: Support Donations. Don't feel obligated,
but anything dropped in the virtual tip jar would be greatly
appreciated. So far no one has bothered... sigh.

- I was invited to be part of Team Macromedia, a group of volunteers
that helps out. Not particularly different from what I was already
doing, but I accepted.

-----------------------------------
Links Added
-----------------------------------

- Added links to a page about discounts on CSE Validator for
HomeSite/Studio registered users. Save $40! Good to know.

- Added links to some neat Favelets bookmarklets (including ones
to set your browser to particular sizes)

-----------------------------------
ASP.Net4HS - ASP.Net specific
-----------------------------------

I've added a new section for ASP.Net add-on's and info for
HomeSite. We have a few submissions including VB.net and C#
parsers and smNetServerControls:

An ASP.Net web server controls add-on suite for HomeSite/CFS
consisting of Wizards (new document creation), Tag Editors, Tag
Insight and Property Inspectors. 32 different Tag Editors are
available as buttons from 2 Toolbars or from "Edit Tag." Tag
Insight supports the 32 asp.net server control tags and 7 style
tags. (free partial evaluation set, full set costs $, though
it's reasonable)

Please submit anything you may have written or come across for
ASP.Net coding in HomeSite.

-----------------------------------
PHP4HS - PHP specific
-----------------------------------

- David Fischer created new conversions of the PHP Manual and
MySQL manual for download and local use in HomeSite's help
system.

- HomeSite v5 now has updated PHP3 syntax highlighting parsers
and a parser for PHP4.

- Added a PHP Function Lookup Bookmarklet to let you do quick
online lookups of php functions from the manuals.

Thanks again for signing up. I hope the site and the add-ons are
useful to you. Please remember: The fundamental idea of Asp4Hs is
to Exchange help and HS add-on's. So please think about whether
you have anything, even requests or ideas, that might help
others... and send 'em in...
