MAAM WWII Weekend and special XMRadio offer
Hagerstown Aviation Museum Grand Opening
Jack King - Maryland Aviation Pioneer 2005
Address changes and stuff

MAAM WWII Weekend XMRadio promotion
--------------------------------------------------------
I've only attended two shows thus far this season, and both started with
dismal weather. The Friday of the Millville Army Aviation Museum's was
worse than dismal, with gale winds and a Delaware Bay so rough that my
morning ferry crossing was the last one before operations were
suspended. I don't recall a more interesting trip since the Chesapeake
crossings before the bridge-tunnel was built, and not sure any of them
were that exciting.

In spite of the tempest, the stalwart Millville volunteers, vendors, and
performers carried on and manage to have a semblance of an evening show
as the wind and rain died down, with the Canadian Snowbirds flying a low
show to a small but enthusiastic crowd. Fortunately the rest of the
weekend was much improved and aircraft noticably absent on Friday soon
filled the vacant spots, with everything coming together for an
excellent display.

MAAM's WWII Weekend Friday weather was not as violent as Millville's,
but low ceilings and visibility did hold many of the warbirds at bay
until the next day. As always though, there was plenty to do and see on
the ground and the air contingent was well worth the wait.

The 40's music throughout the area was this year provided by XM
Satellite Radio, and they are offering special discounts for friends of
the Mid Atlantic Air Museum (that's you). Just go to www.maam.org and
click on the XMRadio link.

Having an insatiable appetite for all kinds of music and out of space
for more CD's, I purchased my "Roady" model as soon as I heard about the
offer and have not been disappointed. Stuck it in my Tracker and headed
out for the weekend. Great reception all the way and my only problem was
trying to decide what to listen to. At home, I plug it into my office
stereo and find myself spending more time working because of the music.

I hope you'll have a look at the XMRadio offering and decide to sign up.
You'll be giving the museum a boost while opening up a whole new world
of listening enjoyment. By the way, besides '40's and every other kind
of music you can imagine, you can listen to Fibber McGee and Molly,
Gildersleeve and other memorable shows on the Old Time Radio station,
and of course, lots of sports, weather, traffic, news and other
categories.

Hagerstown Happenings
---------------------
Next week - The grand opening of the Hagerstown Aviation Museum will
take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 14. Preceding the event, on July 12
at 10 p.m., Maryland Public Broadcasting will premier the Vintage Video
Productions documentary, "Hagerstown: Remembering Our Aviation History."
A repeat showing will be on the 15th at 11 p.m.

Hagerstown was headquarters to aircraft manufacturers such as Bellanca,
Kreider-Reisner, and Fairchild, and has a rich aviation history. In
addition to the opening of the museum, Hagerstown will also host the
Fairchild reunion and fly in, July 15-17, which will feature Historic
aircraft displays, a 1940's dance, discovery flights, experimental
aircraft, and bus tours.

Congratulations to Jack King
----------------------------
Another Hagerstown connection is aviation author Jack King, biographer
of aviation pioneers who recently became a pioneer himself. Jack was
honored by the Maryland Aviation Administration with the 2005 Maryland
Aviation Pioneer award. Among Jack's works is the biography of the late
Richard A. Henson, who had much to do with Hagerstown's aviation
prominence. The Henson Foundation was instrumental in the production of
"Remembering Our Aviation History" mentioned above.

You'll find my friend Jack and his books at Avialantic.com

Address changes, subscribing, and unsubscribing (but why would you want
to do that?)
-----------------
Every time I send one of these out I get a couple of emails asking me to
change an address or sign somebody up. Happily I seldom get an
unsubscribe request.

Although there should be instructions attached by Topica when I send
this out, I’ll repeat them here just in case. Just send a blank email to
avialantic-@topica.com (or unsubscribe if you must). To change
an address, just unsubscribe using your old email account and subscribe
using the new one. If your old account is already shut down, don’t worry
about it. It will be dropped after a few bounces. It's self-service - I
can't subscribe you. This is to protect you from being signed up for
stuff you don't want.

You can also go to your account at Topica.com and do these things and
even read back issues of this marvelous newsletter, if you really have
nothing to do.

And thanks for sticking around! Now back to listening to XMRadio (but I
was doing that already).
