BOISE -- A thunderstorm ripped through the Treasure Valley early this
morning bringing rain and lightning.

Fire crews believe the storm sparked a fire near the World Center for Birds
of Prey in south Boise, and it came dangerously close to some homes.

Jay Privette says he saw lightening and heard thunder and witnessed a
miracle happen as fire creeped toward his home.

"My wife and I are Christians. In 1997 we dedicated the construction of our
home. It's God's house," said Jay Privette.

Jay and his wife Susan live near the World Center for Birds of Prey. This
morning thunder and lightning rolled into their backyard.

"Incredible lightning. I'm retired Navy. And we when we were in Texas I had
never seen such lightning in my life," said Jay.

"All of sudden this big crack from out of nowhere hit. I went into my
husband's office and said well that certainly woke us up now didn't it,"
said Susan.

Jay saw flames approaching his home and quickly grabbed a garden hose.
Susan drove down to a neighbor's home.

As crews fought the fire, the rains came.

"Had we not gotten the rain with this fire we would still be working real
hard right now, trying to suppress and control this fire," said Boise Fire
Capt. Paul Roberts.

At the same time firefighters worked to control the flames, Susan called for
help from a higher power.

"I prayed. I prayed first," said Susan.

Both Jay and Susan believe their prayers were answered.

The fire didn't cross their property line -- the closest it came was 200
feet.

"There is no fire damage, on the other side of the fence there's a whole
bunch of fire damage," said Jay.

Fire officials say only 10 acres were scorched and a greenhouse was burned.

But Jay says he witnessed something else.

"You told me you thought it was a miracle," said NewsChannel 7.

"Oh yeah, absolutely. The house has always been safe," said Jay.

Crews had to shuttle water back and forth because there aren't any fire
hydrants in the area. They spent most of the morning mopping up hot spots.

Despite today's close call, Jay says they have no plans on moving because
they enjoy the view too much.
