Dear Transbay Pathway Advocates:

Excitement is building about a bike/pedestrian/maintenance
pathway on the West Span of the Bay Bridge. On Friday, the SFBC
sent a formal letter to Mayor Gavin Newsom, Assemblymembers Yee
and Leno, and Senator Jackie Speier requesting their support for
the project. You may have also read a front page article in the
October/ November Tube Times about our efforts. If not, check
it out online here:
http://www.sfbike.org/?tubetimes

$200 million may seem like a lot of money, but the pathway
will truly be an economic boon to the Bay Area when it is built.
If we can get regional and state leaders to at least commit
$1 million for the environmental review process and then $10
million for the design of the project, we will have generated
significant momentum to achieve full non-motorized access on
the bridge!

Be sure to check out the SFBC's new Bay Bridge web page at
http://www.sfbike.org/baybridge

which includes costs and benefits of the pathway, and a history
of Bay Bridge non-motorized advocacy.

Also, you have a unique opportunity this weekend to tour
Treasure Island by bicycle, led by Jack Sylvan, who is heading
up the Mayor's Task Force on Base Reuse and Development. What
a great opportunity to see a whole new neighborhood of San
Francisco, while promoting a shore-to-shore multi-use pathway
on the Bay Bridge! And, since Urban Ecology is kindly providing
a van for people's bikes, you don't even have to get your feet
wet, or risk arrest to get there....

(see below- and make sure to rsvp)

Thanks for your support!

Josh

* Bicycle Treasure Island This Weekend with Urban Ecology
Sat., Oct. 9 | 9:20 a.m. sharp - 1 p.m.
Meet at the Transbay Terminal at 1st and Natoma

Learn about the fascinating history -- and future -- of
Treasure Island. This easy-paced bicycle tour will be led by
the development director of Treasure Island Jack Sylvan, along
with project architects/landscape architects and current island
residents. Issues covered include redevelopment plans and
negotiations, infill development, housing, alternative waste
water treatment plans, remediation, and more. This is a great
opportunity to visit an Island that is normally inaccessible to
cyclists without a car (apart from the Muni 108 bus line with 2
bike racks) and to build support for a transbay bike/
pedestrian/ maintenance path.

Getting to Treasure Island from San Francisco: Meet at the San
Francisco Bay Terminal at 1st Street and Natoma at 9:20am
sharp. Load your bike into a cargo van provided by Urban
Ecology. Then catch the MUNI #108/Treasure Island departing at
9:40am. Don't be late! Leave enough time to help load your bike
and walk to the bus stop in the terminal. MUNI fair is
$1.25. Free to Urban Ecology members and students. $5 donation
for non-members.

Please RSVP at eve-@urbanecology.org, or
510/251-6335. For more information, see:
