He's one of the few people I can justify the $ for. Him and that Bruce
dude we're both so fond of. <g> The 2 or 3 times he's come to Ottawa
since I've lived here I couldn't afford to see him. But I did travel to
Montreal several years ago to take my parents to see him. And I saw
him in Washington, DC a few years ago (like Toronto, tickets for many
shows are pricier than other cities) because I was visiting a friend at
the time he was there.

I'm not good at writing reviews. I can say that despite it being in the
program (he has the best programs), I was still surprised that he
started with "Holly Holy". It seems like a song he should work up to.
He did my favourites ("Solitary Man" has always been my favourite of his
early singles) and "Brooklyn Roads" (complete with clips from home
movies and pictures of his family and him when they were young). He
left out a couple of my favourites (I'm sure he left out a lot of
peoples' favourites because he has so many songs) - "Coming to America"
and "Red Red Wine". I never liked "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" and I
think "Cracklin' Rosie" is ok but not great but I also think his show
would be incomplete without them, moreso than the 2 songs I didn't get
to hear last night.
He probably says the same things to audiences every night, just changing
the name of the city he's in, but he's about the only person who can
make the "it's so nice to be back in ..." type statements sound sincere.
I do think this line from the review is funny:
"...even children's T-shirts were $30, and they didn't even say "My
Grandmother Went to Neil Diamond and All She Bought Me Was This Lousy
Shirt."
$35 for adult t-shirts and $25 for the program is pretty much on par
with merchandise at other shows. At least I think that's what programs
go for these days. At the DC show the programs were $50 (unless I
misheard and the person said $15). As nice as the program appeared to
be, $50 is just too much. I'm still looking for a reasonably priced one
from the 2005 tour.
If anybody saw Neil early in this tour (before the summer), the program
has changed a little. There are some pictures from the summer. I don't
know if anything has been taken out.
I added the pictures of the merchandise to my Facebook album.
