New Benchathlon season

Dear Benchathletes, all,
The academic year is starting soon and, as announced previously the
Benchathlon Network site (http://www.benchathlon.net/) has been renewed.
I hope you will agree that it is now a useful source of information on
Content-based Information Retrieval in general and benchmarking in
particular. I have tried to structure the information in different
section including the work (done and TBD), data, links, bibliography
pointers and other useful resources. Since I did not want to create a
list of persons without their agreement to appear into it, this message
also forms an invitation to join (membership is open and free - read
http://www.benchathlon.net/membership.html).
While we are still targetting the construction of a formal CBIR
evaluation framework, an important goal is also to create a CBIR central
point and critical mass necessary for such an evaluation effort to be
achievable.
I have been in touch with a number of you and thank you for your help
and fruitful discussions. I would like to continue this discussion on
the benchathlon mailing list (bencha-@topica.com). Initial
discussion topics are:
* what type of image database, what collection you are using? is it
available? (

* Is it attached with ground truth or relevance judgement? how did you
create (or intend to craete) some ground truth (tools, metholdology)?
* What would you find useful that the Benchathlon Network could do?

I hope that we will make the Benchathlon a successful effort and will
continue on keeping the information up-to-date. Please forward this
message (or the Benchtahlon address) to anyone you think would be
interested in reading about it and/or joining.
