Congressman Rothman Announces 2009 Congressional Art Competition
      
Contest Open to Local High School Students
ARK in BEREA – Today Congressman Steve Rothman (D – Fair Lawn) announced
the beginning of the twenty-eighth annual Congressional Art Competition,
“An Artistic Discovery.” The competition is open to high school students
and showcases the outstanding paintings, drawings, collages and prints
submitted by aspiring high school artists.

“I am pleased to announce this year’s Congressional student art
competition,” said Rothman. “Every year we see such a wealth of artistic
talent from the 9th Congressional District and I am looking forward to
see what students have to offer this year.”

Each Member of Congress will bring his or her district’s winning student
artist to Washington D.C. Their artwork will then be displayed in the
United States Capitol for a full year. The winning artists will
participate in an official ribbon cutting ceremony in Washington, D.C.
and will get to see their work displayed in the CapitolBuilding.

The Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity for students to
participate in a nationwide competition and represent the 9th
Congressional District of New Jersey. The contest is open to all
students, grades 9-12. Since the competition was created in 1982,
hundreds of thousands of high school students have participated at the
local level.

The guidelines of the competition are as follows:

Only high school students residing in the 9th Congressional District may
compete.
A student release form must be attached to the art work submitted (click
here).
All artwork must be original and may not violate any U.S. copyright
laws.
All artwork must be two-dimensional.
Artwork, when framed, can be no larger that 30" high x 30" wide x 4"
deep.
Acceptable categories include: paintings, drawings, collages, prints,
mixed media, computer generated art and photography.
The deadline for submission is Friday, April 17, 2009.


All student release forms and the artwork must be submitted by Friday,
April 17, to Congressman Rothman’s District Office located at Court
Plaza North, 25 Main Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601. If you are
