I have noticed with concern a poster=20
which is currently being displayed on London
Underground=E2=80=99s advertising=20
sites.=20

The poster has been produced by the=20
Israeli Ministry of Tourism as part of an advertising
campaign to attract=20
visitors to
Israel .=20
=20
The map on the advertisement portrays=20
Israel as an area which=20
incorporates the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and the Golan=20
Heights .=20
=20
However, none of these areas are part of=20
Israel , but instead have been=20
subject to military occupation or blockade by
Israel since=20
1967.=20
=20
UN Resolution 242 calls on=20
Israel to withdraw from the=20
West Bank, the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem, which are
Palestinian territories,=20
but
Israel remains in violation of this=20
resolution, and also maintains its illegal occupation of
the Syrian Golan=20
Heights.=20
=20
=20
Israel has sealed off the Gaza Strip since 2005,=20
making access virtually impossible, resulting in severe
shortages of food,=20
medicine and clean water, which has left the Strip=E2=80=99s 1.4
million Palestinians=20
facing a humanitarian crisis. Any =E2=80=98tourists=E2=80=99 would be
unable to visit the Gaza=20
Strip, as
Israel prevents even humanitarian aid=20
workers and lawyers from entering.=20
=20
In the West Bank and
East Jerusalem ,
Israel continues to build settlements=20
in direct contravention of international law, taking land
from the Palestinians=20
to do so and demolishing their homes and farms in the=20
process.=20
=20
In addition, Israel is in the process of=20
building the Apartheid Wall through the West Bank, which,
when completed, will=20
expropriate 50% of Palestinian land in the West Bank,
depriving farmers and=20
families of their livelihoods and water supply, and making
movement for=20
Palestinians almost impossible.=20
=20
The Wall breaches numerous international=20
agreements, including the Fourth Geneva Convention=E2=80=99s
articles on the destruction=20
of land and/or property (article 53) and on collective
punishment (article=20
33).=20
=20
The Israeli Ministry of Tourism=E2=80=99s=20
assertion, through the map displayed on the poster, is
insidious and wrong, and=20
I urgently call on you to remove it from all its sites to
avoid being complicit=20
in this deliberate misinformation.=20
