Sam,
I'm pleased that you've had satisfactory experiences with Cutter, but
this does not excuse their shabby and dishonest behaviour. I have had a
couple of transactions with them, some satisfactory - like you they have
contacted me to sort out orders - this has happened when their online
ordering system shows incorrect stock availability.
The problem is that if something goes wrong they do not act in an honest
and reputable way - instead they bury their head in the sand, refuse to
stand behind the products they sell, let alone respond and communicate
with customers in a professional and decent way. They represent the
worst aspect of dealing with rogues over the internet.
As to a one sided story, Id' be more than pleased to hear from Mark
Riley, let him present his side of the story, perhaps he can explain his
lack of response to the repeated and polite enquires that I made direct
to him. I'm sure some other members of BC would be interested to hear
any explanation. Each time I've sent to BC I've cc'd him with this
invitation; he seems to think it appropriate to use BC as a medium to
advertise his wares and yet on he remains silent to my criticisms.
Once again I say Cutter are a disreputable, dishonest company who do not
deal reasonably or fairly with customers. This is feedback I would like
to make BC members aware off.

Just in the interest of providing 'the complete story', I can (happily)
say that I have now purchased quite a few items from Cutter/Mark over
several email transactions with complete satisfaction. I have been very
pleased that they continue to deal with small orders even though they
are obviously oriented towards supplying industry on a somewhat larger
scale.
Indeed where items have been out of stock Mark and his colleagues have
gone out of their way to contact me, to advise on alternatives and to
amend orders.
I have found them reputable and reliable. Yes - I am in Australia and
yes, I do understand that distance may alter perceptions etc and that
what works for me may not for others etc etc etc. But in life I have
usually found that the 'complete story' is not always one sided!

The only good thing about this list receiving their promotional material
is that every time it comes up they receive a flood of bad publicity -
pure marketing genius.

On a small number of occasions I have purchased from Cutter. Due to poor
customer service and an inability to even respond - let alone
satisfactorily resolve legitimate customer concerns - I no longer do and
would recommend others do not purchase from them.
The last time was to buy three buckpucks, one of which I believe was
faulty.
In trying to follow up the matter with Cutter I received absolutely no
response to multiple emails and requests to sort the matter out. Every
communication was totally ignored by Cutter and Mark Riley.
These requests were sent to the same address that Mark Riley is still
using today and that was used to communicate details of placing the
order.
I have copied the first parts of the correspondence below (with my
address details removed). I recall there were more unanswered emails
from a work email address that I now do not have backups off.
This email is cc'd to Mark and I will happily share any follow ups or
outcome with the bikecurrent group so that in Mark's words readers can
get the complete story.

Last week I purchased three 700mA DC Buckpucks form you. Invoice
number 3313 dated 24/9/07, they were delivered to <address
deleted>.
It seems one of the pucks is faulty. All three are being used in
a
simple circuit straight from the Luxeon datasheet.
A 7.4 V lithium polymer battery feeds the puck via a 2.1 mm dc
jack. A
220 uF electro cap is across the input as the lead length to the
battery will sometimes be greater than 18 inches. The output of
the
puck is connected to two Cree XRE 3W Leds connected in series.
The
Leds are heatsinked - the construction is very similar to this
earlier
version that I describe here.

Two of the three pucks perform without problem. The suspect
buck
causes the leds to glow at a barely percievable level of light.
I have
tried different leds on the suspect puck with the same result. I
have
also tried one of the other pucks on the leds in question and
that
works fine.
Can I return the suspect puck for your examination and
replacement if
you agree with me that it is faulty. What is the best address to
send
it to?
