What is a cat's life worth?

We are all aware that the economy is causing a world of difficulty
for many people. While we all hear the terrible figures about number
of bankruptcies and foreclosures, it is often easy to overlook the
fact that the pets owned in these circumstances often suffer severe
hardship, and may even die, due to the loss of the home. Indeed, the
economy has taken its toll and cats have been abandoned and are being
abandoned in record numbers.
Since January 2008, the rate of owner relinquishments to shelters has
been at an all time high and exponentially increasing. A significant
number are large-scale situations. You can readily understand why
we're scrambling to find alternative funding and resources and why we
are back asking for donations again. We've gotten quite good at
doing a lot with very little, but there is a limit and we can not
continue to provide services without funds. Despite the extraordinary
generosity of the cat fancy and other wonderful animal lovers in the
past, we really cannot continue to provide rescue services and
support our extremely active websites, including Operation Noble
Foster, without an immediate infusion of funds.
Last year, we helped rescue approximately 1785 purebred cats despite
several short moratoriums on rescue. We provided foster homes for
more than 630 military pet cats, as well, last year. Right now we are
aware of two major situations that will require our help. We are
actively working on transport for sixteen Persians needing rescue in
Ohio and we are waiting further word on a very large scale situation
in Alabama involving Scottish Folds. In addition, we continue to pull
cats from high risk situations in shelters and provide transport
services, coordination of large scale rescue efforts, as well as
offering Persian and Siamese rescue email lists and a very active
purebred rescue bulletin board on our website.
Please remember, we also help non-purebred cats (and occasionally
dogs) as we can. Along with the purebreds, we often help transport
non-purebred kitties needing rescue from shelters to rescues and vets
who have space for them.
Purebred Cat Breed Rescue has many people of diverse backgrounds
working together who are deeply committed to helping cats. Not one of
them earns a salary for their hard work in this regard, often putting
in long hours. I know money is tight for a lot of us in these hard
economic times, but I also know most of us genuinely care about
cats. If you can even spare one dollar or even some loose change,
we'd be very grateful for your help. Pennies do add up. Just imagine
what your donation (large or small) can do to help an abandoned kitty
or one facing death row in a shelter!
In summary.... HELP! PLEASE! We need donations and we need them now!
