HOT SITE OF THE WEEK
--------------------------
History Detectives (PBS)
http://www.pbs.org/opb/historydetectives/
History Detectives is devoted to solving historical mysteries, searching
out the true facts (and falsehoods) behind local folklore, family
legends and interesting objects. Using traditional investigative
techniques, modern technologies, and plenty of legwork, the History
Detectives team of experts discovers that artifacts, buildings and
stories can give us new (and sometimes shocking) insights into our
national history. The History Detectives site includes highlights from
the televised investigations. This year it will also feature one story
per week in detail as a Case File. Visitors can study the techniques
used by professional investigators; learn how to conduct their own
historical investigation; or get to know the History Detectives' team of
experts. The site also provides a number of interactive features and
learning activities. Classroom Resources include lesson plans and other
tools to reinforce concepts from the programs, and develop student
interest in the study of history, science, and other core subjects.

C.R.E.A.T.E. for Mississippi Lesson Plans
http://www.create.cett.msstate.edu/create/classroom/lessons.html
The C.R.E.A.T.E. for Mississippi Project is a working model for on-site,
on-going technology professional development, "just-in-time" support for
technology use, and technology-infused curriculum modules. There are
over 200 technology-infused lessons. Emphasis was placed on aligning
each lesson with the state of Mississippi curriculum frameworks, the
TerraNova standards, and the National Educational Technology Standards
for Students (NETS). Full text of the appropriate standards are included
so that teachers from other states can determine which of their state
standards align with standards listed in the lessons. C·R·E·A·T·E for
Mississippi lessons represent the four curriculum areas of Language
Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. There are also How-To
handouts on a wide variety of topics and professional development
modules. A great tool for educators seeking lesson plans.

Changing Minds
http://changingminds.org/
A simple, unadorned site that claims to be the largest site in the world
on all aspects of how we change one another's minds. Changing others'
minds is at the core of many professions and disciplines, from
leadership to brand management to psychotherapy to sales. And although
each has its body of knowledge, they all have much in common. There are
principles, which are referenced in techniques, which often appear in
overall disciplines. The side menu includes disciplines, techniques,
principles, explanations, and theories. Don't miss the Links page which
leads to a hotlist of sites that explore related topics such as
advertising, brainwashing, cults, negotiation, romance, and trust.

ReadWriteThink offers a collection of tools to support literacy learning
in the K-12 classroom. These interactive tools can be used to supplement
a variety of lessons and provide an opportunity for students to use
technology while developing their literacy skills. Click on the name of
each interactive for a brief description of the tool and a list of the
ReadWriteThink lessons that use the tool. Use these lessons, or develop
your own. Selection is pretty extensive; for example: Animal Inquiry -
invites elementary students to explore animal facts and habitats using
writing prompts to guide and record their findings; Circle Plot Diagram
- prewriting graphic organizer for students writing original stories
with a circular plot structure; Comic Creator - invites students to
compose their own comic strips ; or Drama Map - students analyzing a
play can map out the key elements of character, setting, conflict, and
resolution. There are many more to choose from. ReadWriteThink is a
