Dear friends of Bow Triplets,
Here we are with the April newsletter (no 10), kick back and enjoy!
After some fabulous sunny spring days we feel reborn and hope
you all had a nice Easter holiday.
The article below is about our recent Schaffhausen concert.
The Bow Triplets certainly had a great time and we're so happy that
those of you who were there did too. It was great to see so many of you
there and good that you all had tickets before it was sold out.

1. Review: "Reel" Irish Night in Schaffhausen by Susanne Loacker.
ABBA and ASTRID on the Rhein
"Diddleya daa dam dam, skibbeliyada diddleyada daa dam"!
The cosy sleep after a full and delicious meal was not to be.
Stef Sigfalk, singer and lead guitarist of the band Bow Triplets
abruptly
woke the guests in the two completely packed halls and the bar lounge
of restaurant "Thiergarten" with a so called "tongue song". "This is
what
you do in an Irish pub if you want to play dance tunes and have no
instruments with you" explains the Swedish born, in Switzerland living
Stef. Certainly a "British" understatement, not only had Stef, his wife
Heidi and the percussionist Andreas Aeppli brought heaps of instruments
(fiddles, viola, guitars, concertina, mandolin and numerous percussion
instruments), they had also kindly installed three PAs (power
amplifiers)
with loudspeakers for the three different rooms of the restaurant. No
corner was without full sound and that was a fortunate thing for
everybody.
The trio Bow Triplets, the name originating from a typical Irish fiddle
ornamentation, presents itself as a "having fun" formation, however,
with
Heidi, Stef and Andreas the "having fun" refers to their performance on
stage and not to their level and abilities of playing. All three have to
do
with music in their daily, professional lives, as teachers of music and
playing in various formations and orchestras. Hence they never play near
the limit of their playing abilities but apart from displaying superior
use of
their voices and instruments also find time for humourous and
interesting
comments.
Stef is the compère who explains the backgrounds of the ballads, the
rhythms of the different dances and comments on his own compositions
and Heidi holds the musical threads together with calm hands.
Fast instrumentals with fiddle, guitar and the Irish drum bodhran (some
with origine in the 16th century) interchange with songs that Stef wrote
in
a Swedish cottage. These tell tales of fishermen's romance of a flying
white horse in a story by Astrid Lindgren and with twin fiddles they
even
display something of ABBA's folkloristic soul. Within jus a few minutes,
centuries and continents melt to one and the music changes from easy
flowing, light folkmusic to rough liveliness as we knew it from
the "Pogues".
The loveliest moments of the three set concert were the duo vocals with
Heidi and Stef and the choruses with Andreas and Stef.. Highly masterly
how tempo changes, dynamics and phrasings had been polished.
The audience thanked the band with night long attention and spontaneous
dance interludes. Like Bow Triplets' first Thiergarten concert one year
ago,
this event was sold out well ahead. It feels as if one would gladly
repeat
this musical journey from the river Rhein to the river Shannon as early
as
tomorrow.

2. Progress with the new album "One Spot on Earth"
Thanks to all newcomers in the pre order bin for the hand signed
edition
of our next CD “One Spot on Earth”. Please be patient as it will be
autumn
before we can complete the album.
The next studio session is fixed for June 4th and June 6th, then we will
record the next four tracks.
If you are curious, here's the preliminary plan we're working on
(we may still alter this):
1. Big John McCleod
A traditional fiddle piece that we've turned into a bit of a bluegrass
number.
What we've still got to practice here is to stand reasonably still while
playing it (the mics you know) as it's so damn catchy that we tend to
dance all over the place while doing it.
2. The Old Girl
A piece written by Stef in Sweden about a fisherman's widow.
The scene of the song is a fishing village in Sweden well known to us.
(The rest of us think there's a lot of Stef in this song)
3. Sam's Big Day
A quaint waltze written by Andreas and that we just couldn't stop
playing
once he had presented it to us (concertina and viola in this one).
4. The Lord of The Dance and The Dance of The Lord
Well, you all know the first part of this set, hope you'll like our
rendition
of it. The follow up tune was written by Heidi and we haven't seen
anyone yet sitting still while it's played.

3. New high quality CDs from our mp3.com page.
Good news from mp3.com.
As of immediately, all CDs from mp3.com are shrink wrapped and
the covers artist designed on the front, inside booklet, back cover,
inside tray and outside tray.
Of course this customized "touch" will make the CDs more attractive
to look at but not only this…….
They are now accepting 192 kbps files for CDs instead of the old 128
kbps.
This means audio CD quality even if you buy the low cost mp3 CDs via
internet.
Bow Triplets immediatelly responded to these news by removing all old
tracks and uploading new 192 kbps tracks for the CDs.
Sure, it meant that we fell out of all charts and were taken off the
radio
stations that were playing our old 128 kbps tracks. Back to scratch
so to speak as we had managed to get a fair level of daily plays
(1'400 in one day was the maximum for March) however we believe
that all our customers are worth the highest possible quality when
they listen to our music. We're convinced that we'll be back on the
charts
and on the radio stations soon.

4. Bow Triplets at the Burntwood Folk Music Festival, UK.
This popular annual August festival is 20 miles north of Birmingham.
Bow Triplets are scheduled for Friday the 16th in the evening
and Saturday the 17th in the evening.
We thank "Chicken Joe's" in Staffordshire for sponsoring us to come
and play at this festival.

Hier ist der April Rundbrief (Nr. 10). Viel Spass beim Lesen.
Nach einigen wunderschönen Fruehlingstagen fuehlen wir uns wie
neu geboren und hoffen, dass Ihr alle schoene Osternfesttage
hattet.
Der untenstehende Zeitungsartikel betrifft unser letztes Konzert
in Schaffhausen.
Bow Triplets hatte viel Spass und es war toll, so viele von
Euch dort anzutreffen. Auch hat es uns gefreut, dass alle Freunde
diesmal Karten bekommen hatten ehe es ausverkauft war.

1. Rueckblick, "Reel" Irish Nigh, Schaffhauser Nachrichten.
"Diddleya daa dam dam, skibbeliyada diddleyada daa dam"!
Aus dem Nickerchen nach einem leckeren, reichlichen Essen wurde
nichts. Stef Sigfalk, Sänger und Gitarrist der Gruppe Bow Triplets,
weckte
die Gaeste in den zwei rappel-vollen Saelen und an der Bar des
Restaurants "Thiergarten" mit einem sogenannten "Tongue Song", mit
einem Zungenlied.
"So macht man das in einem irischen Pub, wenn mann Musik machen
moechte, aber keine Instrumente dabei hat", erklaerte der gebuertige
Schwede mit Wohnsitz in Basadingen. Was natuerlich britisches
Understatement war. Nicht nur hatten Stef, seine Frau Heidi und der
Perkussionist Andreas Aeppli alles dabei, Gitarren, Geigen, Concertina,
Mandoline und diverse Rhythmusinstrumente. Netterweise hatten sie
auch vorher in jedem der drei Raeume des Lokals Boxen installiert.
Keine Ecke also ohne Ton – und das war gut so.
Das Trio Bow Triplets, das mit seinem Namen an eine fuer die keltische
Musik typische Fiddle-Figur aus drei Toenen erinnert, praesentiert sich
zwar als Plauschformation. Doch bei Heidi, Stef und Andreas bezieht
sich Plausch aufs Musizieren, nicht aufs Niveau.
Alle drei haben auch im plauscharmen richtigen Leben taeglich mit
Musik zu tun, in Orchestern, als Musikerzieher oder Musiklehrerin.
Also spielen sie nie am Limit ihrer Leistungsfaehigkeit, sondern
finden neben ihrem souveraenen Umgang mit Stimmen und Instrumenten
auch noch Zeit fuer viel Humor und nuetzliche Erklaerungen.
Stef ist der Conférencier, der die Inhalte von todtraurigen Balladen
erklaert, mit den Rhythmen von Jigs und Reels vertraut macht und seine
Eigenkompositionen kommentiert.
Heidi haelt mit ruhiger Hand die musikalischen Faeden zusammen.
Schnelle Instrumentalstuecke mit Fiddle, Gitarre und dem traditionellen
irischen Schlaginstrument Bodhran, manche aus dem 16. Jahrhundert,
wechseln mit Songs, die Stef im schwedischen Ferienhaeuschen
geschrieben hat.
Von Ferienstimmungen beim Fischen wird da berichtet, vom fliegenden
weissen Ross in einer Geschichte von Astrid Lindgren, und mit
Twin-Fiddleswird sogar die folkloristische Seele von ABBA enthuellt.
Innerhalb weniger Minuten verschmelzen Jahrhunderte und Kontinente,
wechselt die Musik von Leichtfluessig heller Folklore zur ruppigen
Ausgelassenheit der "Pogues".
Die schoensten Momente des drei Sets langen Konzerts sind die
Duettgesaenge von Stef und Heidi and die zweistimmigen Refrains
von Andreas und Stef. Hoechst gekonnt, wie hier Tempowechsel,
Dynamik und Phrasierungen ausgefeilt werden.
Das Publikum dankte der Band mit abendlanger Aufmerksamkeit
und gelegentlichen Tanzeinlagen. Wie schon an der ersten
"Irish Night" vor genau einem Jahr war der baustellengenervte
"Thiergarten" erfreulich ausverkauft. Die musikalische Reise vom
River Rhein an den River Shannon wuerde man gleich morgen
wieder mitmachen.

2. Fortschritte der neuen CD "One Spot on Earth"
Danke an alle Neuen in der Vorbestellkiste fuer die handsignierte
Auflage von "One Spot on Earth". Wir bitten um Geduld, denn die
Aufnahmen koennen erst im Herbst dieses Jahres abgeschlossen werden.
Die naechsten Studiotage sind am 4. und 6. Juni programmiert, dann
werden die naechsten vier Stuecke aufgenommen und gemischt.
Fuer die Neugierigen unter Euch, hier ist der vorlaeufige Plan
(Aenderungen vorbehalten):
1. Big John McCleod
Ein traditionelles Fiddlestueck, das wir in einer Bluegrassnummer
umgewandelt haben.
Hier haben wir noch das Stillstehen beim Spielen zu ueben (wegen
den Studiomikros, Ihr wisst schon). Das Stueck ist so mitreissend,
dass wir bis jetzt immer tanzen mussten beim Spielen.
2. The Old Girl
Ein Song ueber die Witwe eines Fischers der Stef in Schweden
geschrieben hat. Die Geschichte spinnt sich um ein uns gut bekanntes,
schwedisches Fischerdorf. (Wir denken, dass viel vom Stef in diesem
Song steckt).
3. Sam's Big Day
Ein entzueckender Walzer vom Andreas. Wir konnten
nicht mehr aufhoeren es zu spielen nachdem es uns Andreas vorgestellt
hat. (Concertina und Viola in diesem Stueck)
4. The Lord of The Dance and The Dance of The Lord
Nun, das erste Stueck dieses Sets ist den meisten von Euch schon
bekannt. Wir hoffen, dass Euch unsere Version gefaellt. Das zweite
Stueck ist von Heidi und wir haben bis jetzt niemanden gesehen,
der still sitzen konnte als es gespielt wurde.

3. Neue CDs auf mp3 mit hoher Tonqualität
Gute Nachrichten von mp3.com.
Ab sofort sind alle mp3 CD Huellen in Schrumpffolie verpackt und alle
Coverseiten koennen von den Kuenstlern gestaltet werden.
Dieses macht die mp3 CDs natuerlich ansprechender zum Anschauen
aber es geht weiter.....
Es werden jetzt 192 kbps Musikdateien akzeptiert anstatt wie bisher
nur 128.kbps. Das heisst im Klartext nun transparente audio CD
Qualitaet, auch wenn Ihr die kostenguenstige mp3 CDs ueber das
Internet kauft.
Freilich museen die Kuenstler auch hierfuer 192 kbps Dateien
aufladen.
Bow Triplets reagierte mit sofortigem Loeschen aller alten 128 kbps
Dateien zu Gunsten von den neuen 192 kbps fuer unsere CDs.
Dies fuehrte leider mit sich, dass die bestehende, 128 kbps Songs
natuerlich aus den Hitlisten und Radiostationen verschwanden.
Eine Neustart also da wir jetzt doch eine beachtliche Zahl taeglicher
Zuhoerer hatten (das Hoechste im Maerz waren 1'400 an einem Tag).
Trotzdem finden wir, dass unsere Kunden die beste Tonqualitaet
verdienen, wenn sie unsere Musik hoeren und wir sind zuversichtlich,
dass wir bald wieder in den Hitlisten und Radiostationen zurueck
sein werden.

4. Bow Triplets spielen in Burntwood, Staffordshire, England.
Dieses beliebte August-Folkfestival ist etwa 30 km noerdlich von
Birmingham.
