A Chairde

Dear friends of Bow Triplets,

Stef's mini tour of Galway, Clare and West Cork was grand with a big
session with wonderful musicians in Sixmilebridge and many a song
and tune with his friend the folksinger/guitarist Ronnie Carthy in the
pubs
of Baltimore and Skibbereen. Hear Ronnie sing at:
http://mp3.com/ronnie_carthy

Stef finally found a new anglo concertina to his liking in Galway.
A three row button job with a wonderful sound. He has been playing it
all summer now so watch out for it during the upcoming concerts.
Only just back from Sweden we have a few days here in Switzerland
before we're off to England and the Burntwood festival on Friday.
There are some things we'd like to tell you about before we go
and we found some time for a reduced letter.

So here it is, newsletter no 12 of August 2002.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

1. Swedish music makes you happy.

Apart from lots of sunshine, fishing and swimming we had many great
musical experiences up in Sweden this summer but we'll restrict
ourselves to tell you about this one festival on Sunday 4.August.

The venue was a cultural center in Skateloev in Smaland, south Sweden.
This cultural center is set in a beautiful park with lots of trees and
with cottages scattered around the festival ground.
There was a dance floor set up in front of the main stage where folk
dances could be viewed to the tunes of performing bands.

The festival started in the morning with musicians rowing across the
lake to the church next to the festival grounds. Then there was a
service
in church with traditional fiddle music followed by various performances
on the main stage outside. After the performances various groups of
musicians formed in different corners of the park and anyone with an
instrument was invited to join in.
After our performance, Heidi found a group of traditional Swedish
fiddlers and was delighted to play along with them and further her
experience with trad Swedish fiddling.

Stef found a group of accordionists and joined them with his guitar.
While taking breaks and walking across the grounds we heard a
fantastic variety of music and instruments, to mention one there
were many very good key fiddle players. For those of you who don't
yet know what a key fiddle (nyckelharpa) is, it is a very old Swedish
traditional type of fiddle that is hung in front of your belly and
played
with buttons and a very short bow.
It is the sound of the nyckelharpa that produces this haunting, flowing
fiddle sound that is so typical for traditional Swedish music.

We're looking forward to next summers Swedish folk festivals already.

2. Comments by CELTIC WAYS on the forthcoming CD.

For me, its always an event when new music comes
from Heidi, Stef and their Bow Triplets band. The quality
of their music, arrangements and production excels many
of the "label" bands.

Here's the latest listenable and downloadable offerings
from this wonderful outfit. All of the new tracks are from their
wonderful forthcoming CD "One Spot On Earth"
which is destined to be a worldwide smash hit. .......
Release could be the end of the year.

----------------------------
Big John McNeal
----------------------------

Listed as bluegrass, but this Jay Ungar arrangement of a Scottish tune
is quite a romp. The fiddling is superb, as we have often experienced
from Bow Triplets, but I love the drums. Its not the drums are original
or different, but its what storms this "fiddle fever" tune along. I love

the clever little key modulations towards the end.

-------------------------------
Lord Of The Dance.
-------------------------------

When Bow Triplets decide to do something beautiful, they excel. Yes,
you've heard Lord Of The Dance, but never like this. The fiddling,
percussion and guitar arrangements at the start drift into the gothic,
and elemental. Suddenly you find yourself listening to the true spirit
and meaning of the song.
After a couple of verses, the band start to sing in wonderful
un-accompanied chorus, in comes the bass - and bounces into
the "Lord Of The Dance" we all know and love - but that's not all.
Wait until you hear the tagged on "Dance Of The Lord", the best
bluegrass you'll have ever heard. You'll be rushing to get those spoons
out of the cutlery draw and join in.

-----------------------------
Cock Of The North
-----------------------------

Starts of with a baccy chewing, ride into the sunset mood, yet the
vocals sound very English early Albion Dance Band. I'm now trying to
imagine The Albion Band providing music for westerns. This song has
such a unique combination of sounds. Its loveable on first listen.
Thanks to The Bow Triplets you'll be hearing this song sung in more
pubs, and maybe at soccer matches too. Its a great song for mob
singing.

I love the lines ....

O Cock Of The North
With a dream in your hand
My love has come home to this beautiful land
And he comes through the door with his eyes like the sun
And his kitbag's so full of the treasures he's won.

-------------------------
Sam's Big Day
-------------------------

An end of the evening, sobering up slow waltz., beautifully played.
A great tune for the bride and groom's last dance at their
wedding reception.

--------------------
The Old Girl
--------------------

Starts with a flower power 60s folkey style that merges
smoothly and beautifully with Bow Triplet's signature waltzy sound

........... so enjoy listening
and be ready for the future release of "One Spot On Earth"

A Chairde

Liebe Bow Triplets Freunde

http://mp3.com/ronnie_carthy

Also, unser Rundbrief Nr. 12, August 2002. Viel Vergnuegen.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

1. Swedische Musik macht froh!

in diesem Sommer. Wir beschraenken uns auf das Erzaehlen
von dem Festival in Skateloev, Smaland am 04. August.

Buehne aufgebaut, sodass man Volkstaenze tanzen konnte
