This year's Prince George's County Fair has a special treat for
visitors, a chance to ride inside a monster truck. Well, that is if
you can actually climb into the beast.
The Prince George's County Fair is scheduled to run between Sept. 7-10.
The monster truck rides are just one of the many attractions planned
for the fair, now 164 years old and still the oldest county fair in
Maryland. Organizers are hoping to attract between 45,000 to 50,000
people to the weekend fun.
Other attractions include a black bear act, the traditional beautiful
baby contest, a miniature NASCAR track; pig and duck races as well as
local entertainers.
"This is still something the public wants," Harris said. "We have all
different kinds of entertainment, and it's only $5. You can't go to
the movies on $5."

District 9 should demand attentive representation
Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006
We who live in Council District 9 in the developing tier realize our
district is ground zero for new residential development. Everywhere
we look there are hearing signs for new subdivisions. We also realize
desperately required infrastructure improvements, such as police,
fire and emergency services, are not keeping pace with residential
development, therefore placing the residents of our communities at
risk. The County Council's recent passage of CR-69-2006, which
rescinded the provisions of CB-89-2005 that linked police, fire and
EMS response times to new subdivision approval, further diminishes
the quality of living in District 9 communities. District 9
Councilwoman Marilynn Bland, who voted against CR-69, failed to
advocate for relief for District 9 residents. District residents
attending the council session spoke out against CR-69 and requested
consideration for our district to address the extraordinary
residential development and the lacking infrastructure improvements.
Our council member was silent.
District 9 residents voiced their concerns regarding infrastructure
deficiencies and major traffic congestion along [the] Route 223
(Woodyard and Piscataway roads) corridor during two 2005 town hall
meetings (Sept. 15 and Dec. 8) organized in part by Marvin Silver and
Tamara Davis Brown. Sen. Thomas V. Mike Miller (D-Dist. 27) of
Chesapeake Beach and Dels. James E. Proctor (D-Dist. 27A) of
Brandywine and Joseph F. Vallario (D-Dist. 27A) of Upper Marlboro
made time to attend. Councilwoman Bland was a no-show at both
meetings. A follow-up meeting on the two town hall meetings was held
with Councilwoman Bland and staff, which she abruptly exited.
District 9 residents deserve and demand better representation. We
strongly encourage all residents to evaluate the issues and
candidates and make an informed decision Sept. 12 regarding the
District 9 council seat.

Long-time activists, officials run for Council seats
Business Gazette - Gaithersburg,MD,USA
Councilwoman Marilynn Bland (D-Dist. 9) has more competition than any
incumbent. Her challengers generally accuse her of being unresponsive
to her district.

Washington Post - United States
In District 9, no fewer than five Democrats have lined up to
challenge incumbent Marilynn Bland, and no wonder -- she is an
embarrassment to the council.

You should have received a PRIMARY ELECTION Ballot in the mail with
your voting location and a list of School Board candidates. School
Board candidates are nonpartisan, so you don't have to be registered
with a political party to vote for them as you do for other
candidates.
You should also have received your VOTER'S NOTIFICATION CARD which
also has your voting location and the various district numbers that
you're in. My card lists 6, so I will list candidates in my district
assuming they're the same as yours (Congressional District 5,
Legislative District 27A, School Board District 5, Councilmanic
District 9, Election District 11, and Precinct 1). There are links
below for more information if you're in another district or would
like to share information with others.
NOTE that the EARLY VOTING law was ruled unconstitutional, so will
not be taking place. You can only vote on Sept. 12. You have to vote
for your party, except for nonpartisan candidates. The following
candidates will be on the ballot according to the Count Board of
Election pdf that was available:
