From Barbara Stone of the Greater Baden Aquasco Citizens Association:
Our meeting is Wednesday at 7:30 at Baden Fire Department.
Also, we have learned about a Special Exception hearing being held
Tuesday, Nov. 14 before the Charles County Board of Appeals in the
Charles County Government Building in LaPlata, Maryland. The reason
we are concerned about this special exception is because the trucks
(200 trips per day) will enter the mining pit by turning right
(coming from Baden) from Aquasco Rd. onto Croom Rd. This turn is
hard enough to make in a car let alone a dump truck (especially since
they seem to be using 18 wheelers more and more). They will exit by
coming down Horsehead Rd. and turn left onto Aquasco Rd. to head to
the washer. It does not specify where that is, but their application
states 7 miles from the mining pit. We assume it is the washer on
Gibbons Church Rd. We are concerned about both of these
intersections, they are not adequate for this additional truck
traffic. We realize that the mining will be done in Charles County
and we have no say about the special exception. However, we do not
feel that they have taken into consideration the problems this will
cause in Prince George's County. The proposed mining will be done
from 6am to 4pm during the week. Traffic is bad enough at this time
and these trucks can only cause problems at these intersections.
If you have the time and the inclination (and we hope you do), please
let Mr. Darrell B. Mobley, District Engineer, District 3 (which
includes Prince George's County), Maryland State Highway
Administration, know of these concerns. He's address is 9300
Kenilworth Avenue, Greenbelt, Maryland 20770 and can be reached at
Phone: 301-513-7300 or 800-749-0737, FAX: 301-513-7415. Of course,
if you want to copy the County Council, State Senator or Delegates,
that would be helpful.
Know this is short notice, but it was to us too.
Thanks.
