"Runaway Rooster" Comes Home

"Canines beware." That was the warning from the New York Post when a
scrappy rooster was seen fighting off dogs and fending off park workers
at Frederick Johnson Park on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Now,
thanks to local rescuers and a helping hand from Farm Sanctuary, the
"fearsome fowl" has come to stay at the Eastern Shore Sanctuary in
rural Maryland.

The Eastern Shore Sanctuary is the only farmed animal sanctuary to
rehabilitate former fighting cocks and is often the last resort for
roosters of all varieties. The Frederick Johnson Park rooster -- now
known as "Freddy J" -- arrived at the Eastern Shore Sanctuary yesterday
and is in the process of settling in to his new home.

Thanks are due to the intrepid Manhattanites who finally managed to
catch Freddy J and to Farm Sanctuary, which arranged for the veterinary
tests needed to clear him for interstate travel and also arranged for
transport to our sanctuary.

Visit the Eastern Shore Sanctuary online at www.bravebirds.org to learn
more about our organization or make a donation. Donations also may be
mailed to the address below. Visit www.bravebirds.org/rehab.html to
learn more about the rehabilitation of roosters used in cockfighting.
