Blogging for Chickens

The second annual Blogathon for charity will start at 6 AM Pacific on
29 July and run for 24 hours. Again this year, participating bloggers
will be required to post an entry every 30 minutes for the entire 24
hours. Sponsors pledge either an hourly or flat rate to the charity of
the blogger's choice. Again this year, Heather Singer of Reno, NV will
be blogging for the Eastern Shore Sanctuary. We urge all of our
supporters to support her. Even if you cannot or do not choose to
pledge, consider dropping by her blog and leaving behind a note of
encouragement during her 24 hour ordeal.

Summer Reading

If you've not yet done so, check out the new anthology "Igniting a
Revolution: Voices in Defense of the Earth," which includes a chapter
entitled "Stomping with the elephants: Feminist principles for radical
solidarity" by Eastern Shore Sanctuary cofounder pattrice jones. The
book, which is edited by Best and Nocella and published by AK Press,
can be ordered at any bookstore or online book seller. Visit the
anthology's website at
http://www.peacebuilding.info/ignitingarevolution for the book's
introduction, table of contents, contributors and more.

Have you ever wondered how we rehabilitate former fighting cocks or why
we consider that to be a feminist project? Read the most complete
account we've published so far in the latest issue of the Australian
webzine Abolitionist-Online:

Eastern Shore Sanctuary at AR2006

It's not too late to register for the national Animal Rights 2006
conference in DC on 10-14 August. The Eastern Shore Sanctuary will be
there with a vengeance. In addition to staffing our information table,
sanctuary cofounder pattrice jones will be speaking at the following
sessions: Nature of Social Change, Paths to Animal Liberation,
Engaging Community, Commonality of Oppression, Engaging Public
Interest, Animals and Global Trade, Engaging Abroad, and Forging
Coalitions. Also, don't miss the roundtable discussion on Feminism and
Animal Liberation to be moderated by pattrice and Marjorie Spiegel
during one of the dinnertime extra sessions. And, please do drop by to
say hello to pattrice, especially if you see her sitting alone at our
information table. Quiet as it's kept, she's very shy and always
appreciates it when other people start conversations.

Sanctuary Update

Luckily, the heavy rains that flooded other parts of our state left us
extremely soggy and boggy but not flooded. The ducks were very happy
during the deluges but the chickens were cranky, as were the people who
had to deal with the muck and mud. Now, we're all doing all that we can
to beat the heat. Speaking of which, it's just too hot right now to
type any more, so that will be the end of our report for this month.
