Animal Voices
Tuesday 06 March, 11AM
Eastern Shore Sanctuary cofounder pattrice jones will be featured on
the Animal Voices radio program on Tuesday 06 March from 11 to noon, to
talk about her new book Aftershock: Confronting Trauma in a Violent
World: A Guide for Activists and Their Allies.
Tune in live via:
CIUT 89.5 FM Toronto
http://www.ciut.fm
Listen to the podcast later via:
http://animalvoices.ca
Aftershock is about the real war against terror -- the struggle for a
world in which nobody lives in fear of atrocities perpetrated by human
beings. Every day, people who push against violence and injustice or
pull for peace and freedom must face their own fears. Many activists
also must struggle with "aftershock," the physical and emotional
reverberations of frightening, horrifying, or otherwise traumatizing
experiences endured in the course of their activism.
The book includes practical tips for individuals, organizations, and
communities, as well as information about how traumatic events affect
our bodies and abilities. Aftershock also explores the culture of
trauma that people have created through our violent exploitation of the
Earth, other animals, and one another.

On Animal Voices, pattrice will discuss trauma among animal liberators,
sanctuary workers, and other animal advocates whose work either places
them in danger or forces them to confront, over and over again, the
suffering of others. She'll share tips for taking care of yourself so
that you can take better care of others and be a more effective
activist. She'll also talk about what we all can do to help to heal our
traumatized ecosystems and communities.

with focuses on: the Green Scare, new eco-terror legislation and the
SHAC-7 case; the connection between animal liberation and other social
justice issues; the impact of free trade and factory farming on global
hunger; and the state of the grassroots animal rights movement in the
U.S.
This workshop will be presented from 11:10 - 12:40 on Sunday. Many
other interesting and informative workshops will be going on at NCOR
all weekend. If you'll be in DC this weekend, don't miss it! Visit NCOR
online at http://www.organizedresistance.org for conference details.
Inadmissible Comparisons
24-25 March; New York City
The United Poultry Concerns 7th Annual Conference will focus on the
subject of Inadmissible Comparisons. Speakers include authors Carol
Adams (The Sexual Politics of Meat), Charles Patterson (Eternal
Treblinka), and Andrea Smith (Conquest: Sexual Violence and American
Indian Genocide); anarchist activist and former political prisoner
Ashanti Alston; UPC President Karen Davis; and Eastern Shore Sanctuary
cofounder pattrice jones.
The annual UPC conferences are always extremely engaging and
thought-provoking. This year's conference, which brings together
speakers of varying opinions on one of the most controversial topics of
the day -- the comparison of human and animal oppression -- promises to
be even more energizing than usual. It's not too late to register!
