RE: new Leach Hwy path  Sheil, Henry

Bruce et al,

I agree it appears utterly dumb, but before you go in all heavy handed,
is it clear that a cyclist would have to walk across this stretch? If
so it's clearly unacceptable. Why not just ask MRWA what it's meant to
mean (as Richard suggested)?

Maybe it's just indicating that the dual use path officially ends for
some reason before the ped xing? Who's to say from the sign that either
pedestrians or cyclists are not meant to proceed any further?
Remembers the Kwinana fwy used to "end" in several places to have
traffic lights, before they built overpasses? (It was kinda quaint).

Kind regards,
Henry Sheil

There is a final option: A writ of "mandamus" (excuse my Latin).
Basically it's a writ that forces the appropriate authority to "do it's
duty". From what I've heard just starting the process is enough to get
most councils moving.

It may not be appropriate in this case but if for instance the signage
does not follow the required standards or the council is failing to
comply with documented policies or fail to discharge their duty ( duty
of care etc ) in some other way then it may be just the thing you need.
:-)

Any lawyers on the list willing to do one of these at no charge?

If you don't receive a satisfactory response (and action), write to
the Commissioner of Main Roads and/or the Minister (for Planning &
Infrastructure).

 Hi all

I ventured down the new Leach Hwy path tonight as i saw a cyclist
emerge in the other direction. The path is not officially open and
has barriers to prevent it's use. I continued around the barriers to

 see how it all looks.

I was disappointed to see that along the path an "end path" sign is
erected just before a pedestrian ramp and re-starts about twenty or
so metres later. It appears the intention is that cyclists have to
dismount at this point and walk until the shared path re-commences.

I don't think this is a good solution, I am quite prepared to take it

up with someone before the path opens, but don't know where to start.
Anyone point me in the right direction? and anyone have suggestions
for alternatives?

cheers

glen
