From the CABOforum list manager:
CABOforum originated in the mid-1990's as a discussion forum in the
cycling.org domain for California bicyclists. It was sponsored by the
California Association of Bicycling Organizations (http://www.cabobike.org
) as a means for California bicyclists to raise and discuss issues
among ourselves and to allow CABO to talk about and receive feedback
on its goals, programs, and activities. With the demise of
cycling.org, CABOforum migrated to topica.com and has been hosted
there for almost 10 years. It has been apparent for several of those
years that Topica has little interest in further development of email
lists, providing minimal support.
CABO has decided to move the list to Google Groups, which should more
flexibility, options, and is better managed than Topica. The new group
will be active at the end of this week, with everyone who is
subscribed to the Topica group as of this upcoming Wednesday as
initial members. You will receive an automatically generated message
notifying you of your subscription when the process completes. It will
be followed shortly by a message from me formally noting that the
transition has been completed.
Initially, the permission setup for the new groups will be the same as
the Topica group. Anyone will be able to subscribe to the group and
read read the archives, but only list subscribers will be able to post
to the group. The archives of the Topica list will remain on Topica,
but no messages will be allowed. Any messages posted to the Topica
list will be rejected with the poster asked to send the message to the
Google group.
You will not need your email address registered with Google to read
the list, post to the list, or subscribe to or unsubscribe from the
list. However, if you are registered with Google you will be able to
fine tune the delivery of messages (web only, individual, digest, or
summary) as well as more easily access the list features. If you are
already registered with Google at at different email address, you can
add your CABOforum address to the registration. If you are not
registered with Google, you can find out details about the process at http://www.google.com/support/accounts/
. You can create a new account from https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount
. if you are registered with Google, you can go the page https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount
to manage the email addresses associated with the account.
