'Going troppo' in Australia is like 'going bonkers'. That is what has happened since they qualified for the World Cup Finals.
The Uruguay match broke all records for television viewers.
Suddenly everyone is talking about football, or as they quaintly call it here, 'soccer'
The papers have articles about soccer as a threat to Rugby League and even, incredibly to Aussie Rules.
Everyone is talking about getting up at 6.00 am local time to watch the draw for the finals.
It's not that anyone thinks Australia will win the world cup. But they have:-
a.. a decent squad of players
b.. a good coach, Guus Hiddinck
c.. the Australian sporting spirit
The self belief is everywhere that Australia will perform a giant killing act on one of the big teams.
So watch out Brazil, Germany and England! The Australians are coming to get you!

PS I will primarily be supporting England in the World Cup but expect to go to some great parties when Australia plays
PPS the level of understand among some people here is such that I have heard the referee referred to as 'the umpire' and corners referred to as 'penalty corners'
