Just read this article. Here is a snippet that got me thinking.
"The Internet is an important cultural phenomenon, but that doesn't excuse
its failure to comply with basic economic laws," ... "The problem is that it
was devised by a bunch of hippie anarchists who didn't have a strong profit
motive...."
What profit motive could it be to give every person on this planet an
opportunity to use their own voice?
Is giving a voice and being heard a failure to comply with basic economic
laws?
What the fuck is this basic economic law they are talking about?
Please, somebody explain this to me. I beg you to show me the light.

An LA Times article (linked from Slashdot, but it's worth pointing out
anyways) that talks about how business is going to stop all of this crazy
Internet shit and do it right.
It makes me laugh and kind of sad, in a way.
Nobody has managed to build a long term sustained private propriatary
network that is still alive. AOL is the closest, but they are vastly
different now than they were at their inception.
Big Business: "Well, we've decided that since nobody else has managed to
even do this on a small scale, we're going to take on the biggest
network of
anything, ever. I'm sure it will work out."
No man is an island, but apparantly some businesses think they are....
