Phil Kaplan: Junior Rageboy or Clued CEO?  Martin Jensen
 Nov 20, 2001 21:26 PST
So I'm minding my own business -- okay actually I'm headed for the can --
and I pick up the October issue of Inc. magazine off the table in the
reception area. Inside there's an article about this outrageous dude
who's like, the bomb (or at least he loves it). He's got a fairly normal
name, but he publishes his rants under a monopseudonym (you know, like
"Cher"). His website "has attained a cultlike following." But wait,
there's more!

"He regularly starts message threads on his site, and he also E-mails
65,000 of his fans a free newsletter -- signed by his alter ego" -- "

His "use of online forum software and E-mail newsletters harks back to
the early days of the Web, observes Allison Hemming, founder of the Hired
Guns, a consulting firm in New York City. 'Community-driven content is so
cost-effective,' she says. 'Phil is utilizing true economies of scale.
And he has captured the true spirit of the Web. His site is a real model
for how to use community-driven content.'"

Okay, so other than stealing our Fearful (and Loathing) Leader's
identity, Phil Kaplan of FuckedCompany.com (aka "Pud") seems to be onto
something. I kind of hated him for the first couple of pages, but as I
read on, I found some ideas I maybe could steal, so now I think he's a
visionary.

Have a look.
