RE: The pure form of sculpture  Borcila, Rozalinda

dear friends

very much enjoy the haptic discussion, and am drawn into it despite my misgivings.
as a non-native english speaker, i may be prone to linguistic questions. i have a sense our language may not be sufficiently plastic to imagine new forms of interaction. the insistence on "actually touching", on reproducing the sense of touch (same model, same social function, same body parts, same words), may minimize the development of another kind of physical encounter via mediation.

i think cybersex is a good model here: not simply an attempt to replicate sex, but making use of the actual satisfaction given by potentiality.

ps. why the "pure form" of sculpture? i for one am all for contagion.

Quoting Katrien Jacobs (Katrien-@emerson.edu):
Do you believe in the haptic potential of new technologies?

you touch your keyboard don't you? some linguistics:
'hap' in dutch means to 'have a bit' or 'to bite'.
hap hap they say to their children who do not want
to eat their overcooked broccoli.

Are we just thinking we *feel* and *touch* things in remote
locations and people?

how far must a thing be to be called remote?

regarding marlena's comment about the brainpenis - very witty
indeed.

i will now work on the article geert talked about. browsed the arhives
earlier today. so many interesting people and topics - hello to you all
*waving*
will you all be coming to buffalo?
