For the most part... no, drivers are idiots. It should be mandatory
that all drivers ride a bike to commute at least once in their lives to
see how easy it is to be considerate to bikes. Off topic here, I feel
the same about all people having to be food servers at restaurants too.
I am not timid about my riding but find myself on the sidewalk on the
daily ride quite often. There just isn't a good place to ride in a few
sections of road. But on a positive note, I must endorse these new
fangled "butterfly" handlebars I've installed recently! These were
purchased mail-order from a nifty bike shop in New Orleans. I'll have
to post the link another time. Having multiple hand positions has been
such a positive!

Wow, John, congratulations! That's quite a commute, and far beyond any
commute I've had. Mine's a measly 2.1 miles now, and has never been
more
than 4 miles since '89 when I started commuting.
You've made quite a commitment, and I'm glad that you're enjoying the
ride.
Are drivers respectful down there 'round Jupiter?
Take care,
Chaad

Subject: Giant Cypress SL commuter
Had both MB and road bikes for years now. Sold the Bianchi roadie last
year. Been without and researching a commuter bike for a number of
months. Found an excellent deal on a 21" Giant Cypress SL recently.
Flat bar road bike with 700cx28 tires. I've installed an Thudbuster
seatpost, (a bit overkill) for comfort and have been riding my 20 miles
to and from work in South Florida for serveral weeks now. It has been
one of the best purchases of my biking career. It's fast, light, and
nimble. My fenders are on order. Have a gas powered scooter I used to
ride to work, (also and ebay purchase) that hasn't been started in two
months now. I like my new commute more than ever. Good to be one of
you!
