Looking for suggestions for new bike  Erik Muldowney
 Apr 20, 2005 13:35 PDT

I am wanting something I can ride back and forth to work. But not
necessarily a city bike. I need something tough, as I may not be in the
street all the time but on the side. There is also a pretty steep hill
on my route. I bought a supposed 'mountain bike' several years back, a
mongoose 'switchback' I believe it was. You get what you pay for I am
sure. First time I went off a curb hard the wheel got bent and had to be
replaced. Of course, I am a pretty big guy, 6 foot 250 lbs, hoping to
get in better shape and save on gas.
Desired Features:

- internal hub gears
- driveshaft
- very strong frame and wheels, suspension/shocks or whatever, so I
don't have to worry about tearing it up on bumps; more important than
weight but if i can get this and still have it be light so much the
better.
- xx brakes? not sure what kind of brakes to get but i have heard that
disc are better
- everything I need fits in my backpack so cargo is not necessary
- I prefer to be upright rather than bent over
- comfortable seat. The one I have now is like a rock

Any links or advice is appreciated
