American Chop Suey & Banana Cream Pie  Jed Wubben

American Chop Suey
2 pounds of lean pork
2 pounds of beef or veal
1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons of New Orleans molasses
5 large sliced onions
2 celery stalks
Salt and pepper
Cut meat in dice. Roll heavily in flour and brown in butter. Salt and
pepper and add 1 cup of water. Cook on a low flame one-half hour, adding
Worcestershire sauce and molasses. Add the sliced onions and in another
half hour add the cut celery, which has been parboiled and drained. Then
cook for ten minutes. Add canned sprouts or sliced Chinese chestnut or
chop suey sauce if necessary.
Banana Cream Pie
2 eggs
3/4 cups of sugar
1/3 cup of flour
1/8 teaspoon of salt
2 cups of milk, Scalded
2 tablespoons of butter or margarine
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
1/4 teaspoon of lemon extract
2 bananas, sliced
1 baked 9-inch pie shell
1 cup of Sweetened Whipped Cream
Combine eggs, sugar, flour and salt in blender. Whip until fluffy and
well blended. Blend in 1 cup of milk. Combine with remaining 1 cup of
milk in saucepan and cook and stir over low heat until thick and smooth.
Stir in butter, vanilla and lemon extract. Put bananas in pie shell and
pour custard over fruit. Chill. Top with Sweetened Whipped Cream.
