Re: Thai wives will get right to maiden name  Malinee Prapinwong

Interesting. Good to hear one small step forward to promote the right
of women in Thailand. We still have a long way to go, though, I
believe. Sometimes, I do have a feeling that Thai women somehow do not
bother to understand that they deserve to be treated as equally as
men. Some issues in terms of equal rights for women have been left
unquestioned in Thai society for a long time.

Thank you for sharing. :)

-------------------
CORRECTIONS: Why is it important for a woman to HAVE the right to
keep her maiden name
after her marriage? This question was not seriously asked in
Thailand
for almost half a CENTURY since the Names Act was issued.

My initial observation is this: Thai women are getting more
recognition in terms of their rights, abilities, and respects.
Winning the right to keep their maiden name might not practically
change the ways some narrow-minded men in
Thailand treat their wives, but it will sensitize Thai men about
what women deserve as a human. Therefore, I am
glad to hear of this news.

Cheers,
Snea
