Submissions now open for the 2009 New Southerner Literary Contest.
Entries must be the author’s original, unpublished work and should be
appropriate for publication in New Southerner. The magazine’s mission is
to promote self-sufficient living, environmental stewardship and support
for local economies. For more information, see our Submission Guidelines

* 5,000 word limit for prose
* 50 line limit for poetry
* Entry Fee: $10 for ONE prose entry or up to THREE poems (each no
longer than 50 lines); make checks or money orders payable to
Swallowtail Press
* Multiple entries accepted in all categories
* Entries must be authors’ original, unpublished work
* Postmark deadline: October 1, 2009

HOW TO ENTER
We prefer electronic submissions.
Each entry must include a title page with the following information:
* Title of submission
* Category (nonfiction, poetry, fiction)
* Author’s name, address, phone number and optional e-mail address
Names and personal information will be removed for judging purposes.
Attach work as an RTF (rich-text file) or PDF and paste into the body of
the e-mail. Include your last name and the genre of work (poetry,
fiction, nonfiction) you’re submitting in the subject line. Send to
cont-@newsoutherner.com. You will receive an invoice by e-mail
explaining how to pay the entry fee (payable electronically or by
regular U.S. mail).
Hard copy submissions should be mailed to New Southerner, 375 Wood
Valley Lane, Louisville, KY 40299; include a personal check or money
order for $10 payable to Swallowtail Press for each entry. ONE prose
piece or up to THREE poems count as one entry.
