Peter and Jan. I re-powered Gigi with a Yanmar and kept the V drive. I do have a spare V drive that is available. If anyone is interested, make me an offer. Larry

Subject: RE: [CSY] V Drive Issues
Hello Peter and Jan,
I had my Walter V-drive overhauled at Indiantown in 2005. They used
non-factory parts and it died on me going around Cape Hatteras less than
a year later. I limped in to Beaufort,NC and they sent it off to the
Walter factory who rebuilt it right. Neither was cheap but I recommend
the factory overhaul or at least use factory parts. Be sure to have
your V-drive Serial Number. Mine is hooked up to a Perkins 4-108.
On the heat exchanger, mine is a Bomar, I've had the tubes out several
times to clean out impeller pieces. Easy job. Took the whole heat
exchanger off this year and it was a two day job each way. (had to
remove it to get to the high pressure fuel pump.) I've had overheating
before which was caused by the hot water heater plugged up.
My starter is still working fine after 21 years (whole engine replaced
in 1988). I prefer golf cart batteries, though I've replaced them
fairly often

Got oil being slung from back of Walter V Drive and appears from the
seal junction Boat on the hard @ Scorpian Marine in Port Canaveral, FL
for a bottom job so will be addressing these items. Also going to pull
the heat excahanger and rod/acid wash out. Then I also had an issue
with the starter so we will be also addressing this and installing 2 new
AGM 8D batteries.
Anyone had similar repairs please email me on your experiences.
Thanks,
Peter and Jan Hibbard
