Hello, all,
I wanted to let anyone who is interested know that St. Charles will be
offering a JustMatters module on prison reform, "Church of the Second
Chance," on Thursday evenings, running from Oct. 16th to Nov. 19th.
JustMatters is a shorter, and issue specific, version of the JustFaith
program, which is a 30 week exploration of faith and justice issues.
Church of the Second Chance is based on a book by the modules creator, Jens
Soering, a current prison inmate. It addresses the realities vs. myths and
misconceptions of prison life, why many of us are so willing to accept these
myths, and the possibilities for a model of rehabilitation, restoration and
forgiveness. At a time when 1 out of every 100 adults are in prison, it is
a good time to explore what this means for so many Americans, and how this
challenges us as people of faith, a faith that calls us to feed the hungry,
look after the sick, and visit the prisoner.
